Wake up, babe. New RYM genre just dropped!

So, apparently zoomers believe that there was an "indie sleaze" thing going back in the 2000s that has recently been revived.

Remember how brat was supposed to be "bloghouse" up until a week ago? Well, the RYM autists have had it with people pointing out that it's kinda stupid to suggest that an album released 2024 belong to the same scene/movement as all the post-Draft Punk stuff from the 2000s. So they've come up with a solution: creating a revival tag for a scene/movement that never truly quite existed as such.
So, all of y'all who were trying to be hipster back then. I've got news for you:
You were actually Sleaze. Indie Sleaze to be exact. What, you never knew about?
Well, that's what your were. Periodt. Because now, we need to have a revival of that, because... Just because. OK??

They need to add Incelcore
>>
>>130088030
It's cringe but it really does exist. Also, it's classified as a scene not a genre.
>>
>>130088069
Why is it only Electro House and Electroclash revival stuff when this was only a fraction of what the "indie sleaze" period about?
Where's all the indie rock?
Do zoomers really believe that that time was full of bands like Crystal Castles and that they were mainstream?
>>
you gotta get off RYM my man. it’s over.
>>
>>130088030
>I'm dismissive of RYM and regard it as beneath me but I have an account and have people added as friends
So what's the angle here?
>>
>>130088030
>indie sleaze
what actually defines this genre

Mentally ill trannies

Indie sleaze is mainly attributed to a fashion based subculture at the time and that's why /mu/ hasn't heard of it. It's a (mostly)female thing you're just not privy to. It's not a new concept. No one really thinks it was a mainstream music thing either, more that the music you could call indie sleaze was a symptom of the culture, and you could find it across a few genres.
>>
>>130088030
I never heard the phrase "indie sleaze" in my life until zoomers decided we were in a """revival""" of it.
>>
>>130088030
RYM is just autistic trannies making up history for scenes that happened when they were four years old.

Electro House was unironically the best genre to ever exist i really miss it.
>>
Slayyyter calls it iPod music

itt: nerds are surprised they've never heard of cool kid shit
>>
music is dead, just start banging a drum and making animal noises and playing a jaw harp

Social media has made people ridiculously obsessed with micro-categorizing everything

OH NO NO NO NO NO NO

slayyyter sucks and is a dumb foid she just does what her producers make for her

it's not really about the music, more the clothes and vibes they can dig up from flickr images of like Williamsburg parties in ~2010
BRAT having that label is kinda bonkers to me tho

This, if indie sleaze is real then brat is post-indie sleaze
>>
>>130091477
i don't even understand the connection at all between BRAT and indie sleeze. It was a pretty natural progression outta Charli and she's generally been pretty cutting edge with prod via AG Cook and shit
>>
>>130091692
brat is "bloghouse" influenced
She did attempt to allure to that movement or aesthetic during the promotion, aparently
She talked about it too. She said that she kinda belonged to that scene early on (partly true, although I think she was more of a tumblr thing)
So, it got tagged as belonging to the "bloghouse" scene/movement on RYM
However, lots of users rightfully threw a hissy fit that new albums such as brat were being lumped into a scene/movement that happened and ended more than a decade ago
So they've now created the "indie sleaze revival" label to address that issue. Indie sleaze is more of a fashion thing.

I mean it's just a typical story of mods bloating the fuck out of their site instead of improving it which requires a little more imagination and reflection than just adding more info, more info, more info, autistically.
