So objectively, the top three greatest music genres of all time are classical, jazz, and rock in that order. But which albums best represent each genre as their peak? Pic related showcases which albums the majority of people and critics point to as being the absolute best of classical, jazz, and rock, but personally I would put tristan und isolde for classical, chet for jazz, and we're only in it for the money for rock.

>>130100208"Classical" isn't a genre. It's a 1000 year old tradition with hundreds of different genres, forms and dozens of styles. There's no single piece of music or album that can represent it, that's a stupid concept to begin with.
>>130104711Nigga then why do people constantly use the term classical to describe a certain type of musics genre then?
>>130104711>1000 year oldlike a three hundred year stretch of time where it's completely unrecognizable on either end and most of the time people are just talking about that one century in the middle
>>130105225Because people find it a useful category to distinguish it from popular music, which is what most people listen to, and from traditional folk music? It still doesn't make it a genre in any strict sense, because genres usually imply some shared technical traits or style. These three broad categories don't really have that, it's more about how the music is created, transmitted and consumed in society.>>130105288Yeah, that's the common practice period.
>>130100208idk about classicalkind of blue is might not be the best jazz have to offer but i'm ok with it being representative of the genre as a wholewith rock and roll picrel would be my choice>inb4 compilations dont count your pick for classical must be a compilation since albums didnt exist back then
>>130100208Stooges - Fun House for rock
>>130100208The only possible representation for classical is a compilation that includes a bunch of different composers.

I'm sure there are some recordings of Bulgarian folk singing, Appalachian fiddling, or Javanese gamelan that are critically acclaimed by ethnomusicologists or something.
