Rap was a chance for white artists to allow black people to express themselves without fear of cultural appropriation. But my fellow white folk couldn't help themselves. They coveted the style and outlaw chic of black rappers just as much as they coveted the style and exhilarating iconoclasm of black rock musicians, and the soul and depth of expression of black blues musicians before that. So of course they would trespass on this new frontier as well.
