definitely those, especially if you win one in a cheap crane game at the laundromat when you're a kid and your mom is washing the sheets you pissed in from the nightmares you started having after you caught her fucking not your dad

MODIFIED iPOD CLASSIC.

I would say my phone but VLC is kind of ass and AI doesn't think that there are going to be any apps that can play my flacs that would be less ass

This. Rockbox makes them into a perfect device

WHY THE FUCK WOULD SUBSTITUTE AN iPOD'S FIRMWARE WITH A CLUNKY, UGLY, BUGGY ONE MADE BY GOD KNOWS WHOM?

BY «MODIFIED», I AM REFERRING TO THE HARDWARE; THE INTERNAL HARDWARE.

I had a Sansa 1GB with SDcard (still do) but the fucking volume dial never really worked well and it almost deafens me every single time I use it now. Can't adjust it very well. Thing is it had an A-B loop feature in it. For guitar that was so awesome to have that feature in hardware. I loved that little machine. Ran for a long time on a AAA battery too.

I have an 8GB Zen too and it "could" have been super awesome but it never really powers off so it auto drains its battery. The only way to get it to not suicide is to stick a paperclip into the reset hole. It slows down the power cycle but it too will eventually run out of power. I did like that it could do videos but on that tiny ass screen it was hard to see all my porn on it. But my parents never busted me for porn on the computer...because it was all on my Zen LOL!

Rockbox isn't clunky at all, it was perfect almost 20 years ago and is a sompletely stable release. Further, the UI is customizable to meet your preferences, whatever they are.
>WHY
The range of compatible audio codecs with Rockbox is the most obvious feature. I downloaded it 15 or so years ago to play FLAC. Why would you even need to modify the internals if you're listening to MP3s? There would be no big storage issue at 128gb for MP3s. Changing a battery for a larger capacity one isn't really an intense mod
