>recommends you some obscure demo/EP with less than 20 views made by some random person in their bedroom that you actually likehow do they do it? their algo mogs spotify hard
They are aided by the spirit of the Good Jew, who brings balance and peace
>>130121744They have been researching and developing recommendation algorithms for 28 years, long before large language models and machine learning even existed. Google has a unique understanding of how to deliver content to people that no other company has.
i can relate to this, youtube recommended me Butter Swamp and they only get 200 views and they make great hypnagogic pop. i dont mean to shill, im just saying
>>130121744YouTube and Google have been around a long time, they know what people want to see even before they do
>>130121744youtube vs spotify algos have very different goals. youtube just wants you to keep watching videos so its only strategy is to show you stuff that you like. spotify is way more complex. first, if youre a subscriber, they already have your money so its now in their interest for you to listen as little as possible because that saves them bandwidth. thats balanced with them being paid to push certain stuff up in their suggested plays, we dont know how that works precisely, ie how hard it gets pushed compared to how naturally prominent it would be but we know it happens.but yeah youtube very often shows me stuff I would never have found elsewhere, its great for that.
>goes from word of mouth, deep dives, fortuitous chance, community engagement, and personal curation to arguing over which corporate teat is better from which to suckle how did we do it? the organic past mogs the spoonfed present
>>130121744you just have low standards
>>130121744their algo is insane o algothey refined it a lot thats why with some extensions it is capable of recommending you even lower views stuff. There is an extension for Mozilla or Chrome called YouTube Filters and if you learn how to use it you can filter vids with more than 1k views so you only get underrated or newly uploaded stuff in your feed.
>>130121744Its not just the algoritm>some obscure demo/EP with less than 20 views made by some random person in their bedroom that you actually likeThat stuff isnt on Spotify anyway. Youtube has waaaaaaaaaay more obscure music than Spotify, which is only really ueful if you exclusively listen to Taylor Swift and Kpop
>>130126333>finding enjoyment in a lot of shit is le bad... because it just is okay?
yeah i love 3am obscure 16 views full albums!how did you understand that?
bump
>>130121744It's basically because of this >>130126561I've collected a lot of highly dedicated youtube channels (active and inactive) that were regularly posting super cool niche stuff that is specified to certain subgenres or fandoms or whatever. There are so many autists on there that are reuploading very obscure CDs and Soulseek downloads just for the love of the game. It's beautiful desu.My big issue with Youtube is that this idyllic ecosystem is probably running on borrowed time now, and since their copyright scraping bots have only managed to get better and better at sniffing shit out, they're probably going to crack down on it aggressively soon and it will get increasingly more difficult to keep that sort of music up online. They're also killing a lot of websites that were built on broadcasting youtube videos in real time, such as plug.dj, and that sucks ass.
>>130130234anon can you share some good yt channels?

Because I've got a whole bunch more and they're all unorganized on NewPipe on my phone since I'm not subscribed to them on regular YT. There are a lot of super cool small channels quietly reuploading short art films and old animation and tv archival clips and lectures and literary discussions and political archives and so on. Just can't be arsed to verify them one by one since the names kind of get blurry after a while. Hope this will do for now.I also really like the tracker/chiptune music remixers on youtube like john tay, savaged regime, yuzoboy..etc. And also like checking out obscure covers of semi well known songs by amateurs. The passion is real, anon. Just be adventurous.

YT is the best in terms of algo. My song reached 10k plays on YT Music solely on algo shenanigans and almost nothing from my marketing. YT seems to be a bit more free market while Spotify seems to be the typical pay to win type setup
