I don't get the outrage. It's pop. Of course they were fake.

>op reveals artist identity through filename
not a true /mu/ thread

Most of the backlash was because they won many awards before being outed during that one performance. Not actually singing during performances is lame, but it happens, especially the bigger the machine behind you is.
But these niggas literally didn't even sing on the album. Didn't even write lyrics. They were just models to sell the product.

Most people understand pop isn't based in reality, but these guys' handlers pushed it too far. Not that normal people care about Grammys, but it's important for a lot of people in the music industry. For Milli Vanilli to win and then be found out to have ZERO contribution to "their" music really upset people in the biz.

enshittification, now almost all lipsync

if you have such a hateboner for k-pop that you have to bring it up every opportunity why don't you go back to ultimate guitar or something

who cares about what what a cruddy dance group like them do? that's like getting mad at C+C Music Factory for fucking over Martha Wash
>>

I think its because the whole thing was german and the media is...not fond of germans
>>
What's funny about the lip sync scandal is that everyone went back to doing it all the time anyway, this time with headset mics so I guess that makes it ok, and apparently only these guys got shit for it.
>>
>>130127631
Why don't you listen to music for adults instead?
>>
it was the early 90s and "authenticity" was in style. when these weird yuro puppets suddenly appeared out of nowhere to dominate the charts, they rubbed the industry up the wrong way.
>>
>>130127178
at the time people expected male musicians to be musicians

This seems quaint compared to what come after them

Their scam artist producer simply flew too close to the sun in trying to bring his grift to America. We aren't Germany, we have more than enough talent here, we don't need middlemen to mime along with it like the Germans apparently do.

Funniest part is that literally all the performers were lipsyncing at that infamous MTV concert where Milli Vanilli's backing track skipped. It could have happened to anyone there. The audience didn't even care when it happened, they weren't privy to the behind-the-scenes drama and thus assumed they were just lipsyncing to their own voices like everyone else. The media also barely even mentioned it until later that year after they got their Grammy revoked.
And speaking of that, the sanctimony of the Grammys in making a big show of taking the award back was complete bullshit. The entire industry had already known for months that Milli Vanilli was a fraud. There's no way the voters couldn't have known while they were voting to give them the award in the first place. They obviously didn't care about the integrity of the award, it was a shameless publicity stunt.

They got away with it for two reasons
#1 The newspapers said they were lip syncing during live performances
#2 The ladies were actually singing on the records and only Bobby’s voice was faked by the producer, who ironically also made Milli Vanilli and I’m almost certain he made Dschinghis Khan.

It was the 80s, people were dumber then. People were still abandoning their families and giving all their money to cults just because somebody told them he was the next messiah, and why would he lie?
>>
>>130131423
>I’m almost certain he made Dschinghis Khan
That was Ralph Siegel, a German producer who DIDN’T use fake vocals.
>>
I'm guessing people still cared about authenticity and truth back then. They don't seem to anymore.
>>
>>130127589
same guy behind it too
>>
>>130127589
the guy from boney m was such an insane dancer that nobody cares if he didn't sing
>>
>>130132309
If it was Frank running DK, I'm sure they would've sang English and Frank uses his vocals for the lead dancer before his death. (RIP Louis, fuck AIDS)
>>
>>130127178
they look gay
>>
>>130127589
1. They actually danced
2. The girls did sing, just the guy didn't
meanwhile Milli Vanilli was COMPLETELY fake. Those two men were not involved in the musical portion of their work in any way shape or form and simply limpsynced on stage
>>
>>130132407
Is Frank Farian the German equivalent of Colonel Tom Parker?
He gets ahold of some promising stars and immediately ruins their lives.

Hope they see this bro.
