>>130148900Never liked Deafeat! Maybe if they made it into an abridged 10 minute version
>>130148087Neither. Pitchfork stomp clap hey band.

>>130148087IIN is vastly superior. Time Skiffs was exciting at first, but most of the songs really aren't much. IIN is almost all great, except for them shitting the bed in the last two tracks.>>130148172Strung with Everything Passer-byWe Go BackRoyal and DesireGenie's Open Broke Zodiac MagiciansGem & IStride RiteThose would be the songs, but idk which order would be best. Defeat is mostly great (except for that dud middle part), but would work well as a stand-alone single.
This is an Animal Collective thread.
>>130148313Real... everyone warned me about demoitis but I didn't take it seriously.
>>130148087I genuinely thought both were excellent, but Time Skiffs is better. >>130148172Dragon SlayerPrester JohnGenie's OpenBroke ZodiacMagicians From Baltimore Car KeysGem & IStride RiteRoyal and Desire
>>130156538wait I wrote time skiffs but I meant Isn't It Now
>>130148087Time Skiffs is better. Isn't it Now has two outstanding songs better than anything on Time Skiffs - Defeat and Magicians In Baltimore, but Time Skiffs is more consistently "decent". Neither is great, not at all a "comeback" that people thought this was. The production on both is extremely plain. It's like auditory blueballs most of the time, a lot of the songs feel like they lack something and do not stick at all, not much desire to relisten, and these are meant to be pleasant not abrasive. An example of poor studio choice, listen here to the ending of Car Keys in a live perfomance:https://youtu.be/542V5JKJYZE?t=622There's a really fun vocal crescendo that's almost completely absent from the studio version of the song, it's subdued, in the background and makes the song feel like it just fizzles out.https://youtu.be/47hf4fCutbMMost of the album is still okay, pleasant, but no more than that, whole thing can be characterized as unremarkable.Same issue is present on Isn't it Now, but it's made worse because there are less tracks overall (even if Defeat is a huge 20 minute one). The production on most songs is still plain, but they also try to "experiment" more which doesn't pan out particularly well, and there are not enough of simple decent melodic songs to phase that out. Soul Capturer has a good melody, but it's six minutes of the same thing. Genie's Open doesn't have enough going for it for it's 7 minutes and it's ending is anticlimactic. Broke Zodiac and Gem & I are annoying sort of atonal tracks in the vein of Walker and We Go Back from TS, I really dislike those. Stride Rite is pretty but it's just Royal & Desire but not as good. All the Clubs Are Broken is a cute penultimate track...except the final track is some utter bullshit. What the fuck is King's Walk? What the fuck were they thinking? And it's 5 fucking minutes! The album esentially doesn't have a closing track, there's a prelude to it and that a shitty overstretched outro.
