Karen Revisited is their best song, even with the eight minutes or so of ambient noodling at the end.Terrific album.
Murray has some pretty great moments, its probably their most "classic rock" and most riff oriented but overall its not all that experimental like the rest, I imagne if its your pick that means you like things a little more normal, little more mainstream, nothing wrong with that so long as you still like RAWK>>130163061thats my favorite
>>130164236primo taste my friend, also my favorite track from the album
what are your favourite Lee Rinaldo songsI like Wish Fulfillment
Love A Thousand LeavesLove NYC GhostsLove Sonic NurseLove Rather RippedI don't really get Murray Street, though I don't hate it either
>>130164256>I imagne if its your pick that means you like things a little more normal, little more mainstreamFuck you, you don't know me. I eat the Dead C for breakfast and shit out Magik Markers
>>130163019Probably the best of their post-80s albums. I still prefer Daydream Nation and the rest but I love this one. Karen Revisited and Rain On Tin are 2 of my favorite Sonic Youth songs. Jim O'Rourke's production on this is so underappreciated as well.
>>130165120their Jim O'Rourke phase is pretty good
Murray Street [DGC, 2002]the diligently-realized sound of exhaustion ("Rain on Tin Roof", "Sympathy For The Strawberry") **

>>130166452I pretty much love every album they've made with him that I've heard. A ton of his solo stuff is amazing too, Halfway to a Threeway is probably in my top 5 favorite EPs ever.
>>130168887what do you think of Gastr del Sol?
>>130170150It's pretty groovy stuff. I haven't listened to very much though, truth be told.

Spun it again. Karen Revisited and the last 2 songs were cool but I kinda just see it as another Sonic Youth album otherwise. I'm a Kimfag though so what do I know?
>>130163019I 100% agree. Sonic Youth were at their best when they decided to make pretty music. The noisy stuff from earlier just comes across as tryhard for me. I'm not against noise rock, i like Branca and Cherubs and all that shit, but their brand of cacophony annoys me.
>>130163019I love Swirlies and my dad told me to check out Sonic Youth. What should I listen to by them if I like Swirlies
>>130172101The obvious answers are either Sister or Daydream Nation. Daydream Nation is a bit more grandiose and sprawling, Sister is more focused. If you like Daydream Nation more, listen to Evol. If you like Sister more, listen to Goo or Dirty.
>>130172101Probably Goo and Dirty if you're aiming for a denser, alternative rock kind of sound. If you like those, give Sister a shot and if you're still in, move on to Daydream Nation. That's the critically acclaimed one but it's a bit of a beginner trap IMO. Rather Ripped's also a decent place to try their later stuff, and if you like that one then give Murray Street and Sonic Nurse a go.
>>130163019I believe murray street was where their studo in new york was and where they spent a lot of time post-9/11 at that place.
>>130172058so you don't like their 80s albums?
