1970's Turkish folk-pop star Tülay Özer died. She was one of Turkey's most popular folk-pop singers of that era along with her younger sister Zerrin. In the Turkish context, 'folk pop' became distinct from western-influenced pop during the 1960's, and was its own genre by the 70's.

Folk-pop retained more traditional instrumentation and eastern musical themes compared to 'pop' pop or rock from Turkey of that era. But it was still distinct from 'traditional' Turkish folk due to its use of modern/western elements.

It occurred to me that 1970's Turkish folk-pop is almost never discussed on /mu/, so, here's an example:
