Do musicians who use DAWs typically have a "signature" set of VSTs that they limit themselves to in every song? I feel like having close to infinite options every time I start a project is poisonous to creativity and makes it impossible to finish songs. Small bands who are broke usually make better music than ones who can just hire whatever session musicians they need on a whim.

I am sure plenty of people will say they hate her because she's trans and they're retarded right-wingers who hate "trannycore" or whatever but underscores seems to mainly have like a signature set of VSTs, she did two production deep dive streams on her latest album like a week ago. (The album is good btw)

the question is too open ended. there's numerous DAWs and numerous VSTs that do different things.
it all depends on what music you're doing.
of course, it's usually gonna be a certain set of effects and generators but if you're actually interested in making music that way, experimenting with various VSTs and sounds and whatever the fuck else IS what makes the music so yknow i dunno, learn more about how stuff works
>>
>>130175612
why do people do this?
literally just search for VSTs and look it up yourself.
that's how you learn about things
>>
>>130175631
cont. getting the abridged version from a person whose qualifications you have no idea about is kinda dumb eh?
>>
>>130175635
anger issues also point to a low IQ

>I feel like having close to infinite options every time I start a project is poisonous to creativity
how much of those ''options'' do you actually know and can easily make music with?
>>
>>130175598
this looks like such a miserable way to make music

back to your tunnel, disgusting rat

any workflow benefits from the ease and organization of repeating elements.

that said i make shit up everytime i open a daw.
if i didnt save the files, i would know what i did.
but im not trying to be a factory.

Most of them, I've been making music since I was like 10 and am very familiar with envelope parameters and methods of sound synthesis, and I find most plugins with unique or unusual parameters pretty intuitive to figure out, if that's what you're asking.
>>
>>130175771
Ok then find a couple whose sounds you think synergize and make music
>>
>>130175767
also not that guy
jesus how fucking miserable are you, cunt

Yeah that's how I function. I limit myself to a few plugins for sound creation, "signature" if you will but it's rather about coherence and setting borders to your creativity. It's like a canvas, if you paint your picture in all 16 million colours you'll make a mess.
But when it comes to mixing, the end justifies the means and all hell breaks loose. Here you really have infinite possiblities as long as the result is clean.

is there a ton of snow out rn?
>>
>>130175591
All the VSTs do the same thing so it doesn't really matter.
>>
>>130177293
ok so an fm synthesis vst is the same as a distortion plugin vst got it
what a fucking retard

I don't get it

>>
>>130175591
I mark or star favorites. I don't download everything I see that is free though. Usually a tool per job type, I mean why have 4 analog fm synth that do the same shit?
The entire point is you won't need a particular synth model. There aren't "tone woods" that make the sound.
>>
>>130175591
its usually like "i want this specific piano from this specific library and company" cause it has that sound i like, or same with reverbs like specific plates or same with distortion cause it gives me my own sound and i really like those vsts
it becomes terrible when you have so much to work with and you end up never finishing anything, better to learn your tools before having a lot you stack up with
>>130175598
it is trannycore, it will always be trannycore cause it has that "sound" as other trans musicians but yeah some producers have their own set of vsts that add up to that signature sound or techniques they use, limiting yourself is good in all cases for finishing something fast and quick, if you are doing something more extensive like an album, you are going to spend more time with it and limiting yourself becomes more like an option to close your scope more to finish certain things and reach "goalposts"

>>130175591
at least on the rock/live instrument producing side i've seen a lot of pros talk about the importance of an established workflow and knowing your main tools that you use to get the core of the work done
>>
>>130175591
some musicians do and some don't. there is not just one group of musicians that exists as a monolith.
>>
>>130175591
yes

can you fuck off nigger, i don't want you to talk to me. Stop trying to fucking bully me ok?

thats no way to talk.
so shut the fuck up
>>
>>130177304
They both add harmonics
>>
>>130175591

Noise gate
EQ
Compression

Three of the most potent effects which shape the sound of a recording. Then you can make presets out of those to streamline your mixing.
>>
>>130185299
The way you responded to that post looks like that's your music?
Is that true?
If that's the case, i am sorry, but this is bad
>>
>>130175888
gay but nice trips, faggot
>>
>>130175598
I always find it interesting how many electronic musicians who use Ableton just copy-paste actual audio files over the grid to make drum parts, rather than actually create a drum rack and write parts in piano roll

I can absolutely see in what ways it can be a better way of working but damn my brain doesn't work like that
>>
you only need serum 2 and nexus, having those with all the presets is better than having 20 free vsts with default presets unless its like some rare vintage vst which you do not need anyway
>>
>>130189876
Analog Lab and Omnisphere are better than Nexus for presets imo
The problem is your music becomes a bit souless, I can literally recognize Omnisphere presets sometimes in songs and I don't like it

I agree with this. It looks more like being a gay nerd "engineer" clicking two thousand times with your mouse, than being a real musician with your bagpipe, harmonica and shit
>>
I would never use modelers or unnecessary synths on an actual studio album only on demos
>>
>>130189959
You play bagpipes and harmonica? Thats pretty cool
>>
>>130191890
Just the bagpipe, but ironically I spend more time making breakbeats and dungeon synth garbage in FL Studio than actually playing my instrument lately. And yeah, tweaking knobs and writing MIDI patterns is fun in its own way, but it's just not the same as physically feeling the instrument and being directly inside the music
