Why don't Western producers focus on boy bands or girl groups anymore? There's obviously still a global market for them. Did they just decide they can't compete against Asia?

I'm not some recording industry insider or something but I do have a few ideas. I reckon it's cos of the different music industry. K-Pop is the peak of manufactured music, kids being sent to music academies at a young age to learn how to be the perfect pop star by the time they're 18. Not only are the practices that go on here rather questionable, and many burn out, but these shady practices by management companies remain well into their career. With the labels and management being given a lot of control.I don't know much about acts outside the UK, but over here you don't have that same talent pool of kids who've been trained since childhood. So it's harder to go around and look for teens with the right look and some musical talent to form a pop group with. Furthermore the artists are given comparatively more freedom. Rather than being chained to the label they can drop out of the group or do a solo record every now and then. This lack of control makes them a worse investment from an industry standpoint. You never know if the groups going to fall apart or not.
>>130175823Most of the stuff that was done to promote especially the boy bands in the early days is now a massive violation of every labour law in existence, so it's a bit harder to do.I addition, in the west culture has pretty much fractured, and if there is no "mainstream" music anymore, fed by a record industry and media that can manufacture widespread appeal on demand, it's difficult to get away with the inorganic marketing schemes that were used.In short, it takes too much investment for the risk involved, so the opportunity cost doesn't make sense anymore.
Nobody does child exploitation like asians so it checks outAnd even then, it's just one country that relies entirely on western producers and writers
