>band has two distinctive rivalling songwriters who never collaborate

most pop slop has like 20 song writers, idk if the bloat is needed or they are simply taking advantage of the wealth of pop retards to just process that shit as much as possible so every producer earns some do$h

>idk if the bloat is needed
of course it isn't they just want their slice of the pie

>it’s their biggest hit

most likely one guy writes the music, another writes lyrics, anyone who makes a minor tweak gets a credit. I cant imagine there's actually large teams of people sharing creative control, that sounds like a nightmare.

most kino setup other than the frontman acting as unquestioned dictator

what's the least kino setup?

The drummer's girlfriend runs the show

everybody getting an equal split of credit like some gay commune

Yes. That's what destroyed CCR, for example. Their last (and shittiest) album Mardi Gras was a collaboration where everyone wrote an equal number of songs and got equal credit for everything. Before that, John Fogerty was writing and arranging everything as he saw fit, and Mardi Gras revealed why.

what are some examples of these bands with distinct multiple songwriters setups?
Beatles
Big Star
Sonic Youth
Animal Collective

This is a great one.

I like Die Spitz, and I'm surprised how much hype they are already getting (opening for Foo Fighters and Olivia Rodrigo) and I also like their songwriting setup and the potential for conflict and rivalry.
All four members shared credit on their pre debut album eps. Then on the 2025 full length album three switch off solo credit for most of the songs (bassist is of course irrelevant and gets like 2 co-writes total) whenever one of the three does the vocals, and each of their songwriters have distinct styles The metal fan does all the lead guitar for everything. Whereas indie rock and grunge fans switch off drums and rhythm guitar, drumming obviously when they are not the singer songwriter on a track. And the kicker is metal fan and indie rock fan already seem to get on each other's nerves.

Plus they are all girls, and girl bands are famously stable, haha, so I give them a couple more years or one more album before someone ragequits or gets kicked out in acrimony with lots of drama.

Queen - every member wrote songs, including n°1 hits, individually as well as collaborating together

Supertramp - Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies each wrote about 50/50 of each album, but always separately (pretty sure this is who OP had in mind)

Pink Floyd - Roger Waters progressively took over the lyrics writing, and then the music as well, but early on Rick Wright often wrote songs on his own, and David Gilmour often contributed music. (not to mention Syd Barrett at first)

Fleetwood Mack (Buckingham, Nicks and McVie all wrote)

You can't ghostwrite for your own band, that's not what that means
