>>130195142Are you trying to write vocal harmonies like the Beach Boys, or just learn the parts they sing??Either way you will have an easier time if you don’t think about it like chord progressions or how many steps up from the main melody line any given part is. Think of each voice as a melody that is separate from the main melody. Then the melodies weave together in a way that creates chords. It is the same line of thinking with baroque/pre-baroque music. The concept of chords/chord progressions as a way to understand music actually came later, what came first was several melodies being performed simultaneously, and the chords (as we think of them today) being a sort of by-product. The idea of using the same melody shape for all harmony lines, just singing them at different intervals doesn’t fit with this style.
