>>130200719Odd choice to use foley percussive elements for this track. Don't think it quite works and they feel a little too present/forward in the mix.
sample slopping is despicable and its ramifications to music industry and garage start ups has been spectacularly terrible. zero originality, just copy paste and output noise.

>>130206408the real tips are on books, youtube slop is absolutely horrendous with tips and etc, theres also a lot of misguidance and usually hidden behind a lot of filler and not getting to the point, even then its best to watch instead track breakdowns from artists you like or any sort of interview they did>>130206836theres this old reverb vst that is called abstract chamber that i used all the time, idk why but it sounds neat, if you want to enshittify your reverb just downsample on a send
also i don’t think the (plugin) scream filter reacts much like the original massive filter.it was kind of obvious just watching the demo video, and i tried sweeping it around and very roughly approximating if it may be the key tracking… eh.maybe there’s a sweet spot to gain stage it at but there’s a very obvious round ish 3rd harmonic square type sound to it, and if you back off the gain it starts squealing prematurely (haha)…HOWEVER it does sound very good and extremely useful for a similar in the ballpark sound straight away, and will probably sound insane in a full chain dialed in to its own strengths. very good just not THE SAME.well that’s my first impression anyway.they made it sound like it was supposed to be exact and maybe it is and i’m just stupid and wrong that would be cool
>>130207636> just downsample on a send>angry chris johnson . jpegit’s not that simple kid
>>130207668well what do you mean by low quality? like an actual shit algorithmic reverb?>>130207662was the same anon who responded to you about it on the last thread, but yeah its not a 100% accurate, just close enough, even then its open source if you wanna do some tweaks to it, for an actual scream filter thats very close you could use the "scream lp" in serum fx but thats not free but its in Serum 1
>>130207722serum scream filter was honestly never even close.obviously most don’t care or want it but if you want that one specific early 10s wub that + the tube distortion in massive is just necessary.other use cases (for me) were adding grit or an annoying ring to a patch, or in an acid patch (not as the main filter but again for a specific character).straight up i think the massive x filters just out class it for acid sounds though.on my to do list was to have a sesh where i through scream into some fm8 chains to see if the (that) one growl can be taken further and im expecting it to be insane in that context.idk it’s just funny, weird, and inconvenient that just this one filter on a 20 year old digital synth isn’t available.if NI wasn’t hell bent on making the most ridiculous decisions possible they’d be offering several of their old effects as standalone marketed toward the edm crowd or capitalizing on the 90s/y2k nostalgia shit. SIIIIGH
massive x creak filter
>>130207812they never will because of boomers just doing the decisions and besides its more profitable to cater to people with more "easy" approachable ways to make music.if anything NI Massive is still very good, just that it was a different period for NI, if they ever wanna refurbish massive they could give it the Absynth treatment but its not gonna be anything new and besides the scream filter just being entirely proprietary and never being its standalone thing, so the scream vst is probably the closest thing for you if you dont want to use NI massive as your only source.also cure audio does a lot of that old dubsteppy 2010 stuff, so i recommend checking their videos ig if you like that sort of thingif you want more advanced filtering stuff, you could learn how to use filtertable by kilohearts, there is a way to imprint filters but im not a 100% sure of it, probably their discord or some tutorial has it out there
>>130207862agreed and as a faithful user i'm still pissed about absynth 6.also way ahead of you.
>>130208031based filtertable user AND obsidian and RX user also i don't have more loud ice cream so ill make more another day anon
Been playing round with this synth on Logic IPad, I actually really like it. This patch I made seemed fine until I held down a chord so I called it Don't Holdhttps://vocaroo.com/16heyN86j86S
>>130208258love it, I would call it 'Hold for existential crisis'
I'm working on a (minimalist) browser-based DAW, one better than most othersAny feature requests/suggestions/recommendations? I am trying to keep it simple and beginner-friendly by default but with the ability to toggle to a more advanced mode
>>130207566>if i ever get into composing like that it’ll be for oneohtrix never type beats and 3rd wave hyperpop musicI say without a hint of irony or baitiness that those are literally the only - literally the only - two decent forms of music invented/promulgated within the past 10 years and that if someone isn't doing one and/or both of those they're likely not even trying or have terrible taste or are unintelligent(Though I find it funny anyone would describe any of OPN's music as "beats")
>>130209187Do two versions or scrap advanced because the point is if you're in badic you don't want to be able to move to advanced The latest tape16 daw is bad because it has rewind time- that shouldn't exist, also it looks budget
>>130209195The OPN I heard sounded like someone playing through presets on a 90s synth who didn't know how to play at all. He has no business making music and should stop, AI is more talented
>>130209269That's because you listened to his stuff after Returnal, eveything is a vst demo after that album.
>>130210292take it back>>130209195i think you’re being ironic because nobody on this board would ever actually think or say this while simultaneously ignoring everything else good from that time period
>>130211135>take it backListen to it while pretending that it's not the same guy who made Zones Without People or A Pact Between Strangers and you'll hear it's just VST demos (he literally just used Omnisphere presets in one of the albums so I'm not exaggerating that much).
>>130211216i’m aware. you’re just wrong and also clearly just haven’t listened to everything he has put out.anyway a lot of people considered his latest album a return to form in a sense, which i somewhat agree with, so you may enjoy it.
I saw a thread about musicians restricting themselves to a select amount of vsts/gear and I was like ''I will check it out later'' but it's not up anymore and I can't seem to find it in the archive. Does anyone remember what words appeared in the thread title so I can search by keywords in the archive?
Anyone have experience using Flex at all? I don't know if it's just me, but the bass presets are a nightmare to use. They add loads of additional harmonic content that sounds shitty and tends to be very present, rather than a nice subtle effect. I also have trouble trying to tame the dynamics - like I'll have a pattern that goes up an octave during the 2nd part and it gets kind of rumbly and muddy there and too loud. I've tried compression, limiting, various EQ'ing, using the dials in Flex itself, and nothing seems to work. Very likely a skill issue, but would be interested to know if anyone else gets it.
>>130211273what about velocity or reading the manual
>>130200719>>130200997>>130203154There's no Foley in this track. What percussive elements are you referring to?
>>130211467The overbearing clinks that start at 12 seconds. They are too loud and sound like someone hitting bottles. Come on, anon - even if it isn't actually foley, it should be obvious what's being referred to.
I'm new to this, I dont have any vsts and every vst I try using sounds like dogshit to me. Do I have to sandbox everything if I pirate plugins? Should I just learn how to make do with what I have? I did math in uni but this makes me feel so retarded nglhttps://vocaroo.com/15oab2pGfOZz
reminder to transcribe and remake songs and sounds learn what makes them tick
I'm having massive fun.
>>130214639And I don't need any money, don't want to "work" making music.Fuck that noise.
>>130212321>I dont have any vsts and every vst I try using sounds like dogshit to medo you mean you dont have any paid plugins and the free ones youve tried dont sound good? what have you tried ?>Should I just learn how to make do with what I have?yes, expensive gear/plugins wont help you make better music. familiarize yourself with what you have and "master" it. you will be better off knowing the ins and outs of one plugin than having 20 expensive ones that you dont know how to use. at that point you are essentially just paying for presets.
>>130214666>666I see. Lucifer is a nice guy in the comics.
>>130214695I will not work. But spend days, weeks, months, perfecting. Not perfect of course, perfect is the enemy of good.
>>130211262>>130175591
>>130211561was just looking for some clarity, sorry if I frustrated you
>>130215028>>130211262some do and some don't, for both process and goal oriented reasons (i.e some of it is convenience, work-flow, ease of use or practicality, while others may use certain plugins/samples in order to achieve a "signature" sound).further still, producers who are skilled at crafting a sound may always achieve the same sound (within reason) no matter what they're using.e.g SOPHIE said, word for word "bihh just gimme a synth with two filters and i gotchu idgaf all these punk asses just suck at sound design xD"as far as what the OP is hinting at some newer producers, or even experienced ones with ADD brain may find it beneficial to limit the scope of their production environment and how many decisions they have to make.

>>130214666I'm honestly really torn on this. Feels like I'm slowly approaching a point where the quality of my compositions/productions could be "marketable" in some sense, hell I've even had some friends&family tell me that the melodies got stuck in their heads over a week after the initial listen. But I've never released anything publicly, and I'm not sure I'd even want to. Not only do I hate attention, but I'd mostly worry that making music would turn from a fun hobby I do at my own pace into a chore with pressure to release, which would probably completely kill my drive and any joy I currently derive from it.I guess in the end I'll probably just keep it all to myself, but sometimes I can't help but wonder "what if".
>>130217925mid tier “cult following” with people meme-ing that you never release anything is the dream.main source of income? pressure?NETWORKING and thinking about MARKETING? disgustinginb4 cope
>>130217925if you hated attention you would not make this post, legit just post and don't care about pressure or following, if someone listens, cool, if no who cares if you enjoy it.
i love attention i’m an attention whoregetting attention for music doesn’t feel fulfilling (for me) though. perhaps due to a deficiency in having (maslows) personal needs met or a schizoid personality.regardless, it stands that people are different and you’re being overly dismissive/conflating different aspects kf “attention seeking.” slow thread slow thread
and also a feature that probably most people (me) miss is that in fm8 there is actually a little square at the top where you can drag around and control the xy morph outside of its main page, allowing you to quickly audition whatever four sounds are packed into the preset as you flick threw the browser. very convenient.guess what they added in massive x? now guess what they DIDN’T add in massive x.
>>130211253After Returnal, his phrases have no logical continuity.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYBR0KdW2pkAt 0:10, what is this? How do you get from the intro to that? It literally sounds like a random pattern was queued after the intro. For example Autechre do this very well, they transform tracks in unexpected ways but you can see that it makes sense you just weren't expecting it to happen that way. In OPN's case, I'm not expecting it because it fucking sucks ass and doesn't make any sense, not because I couldn't think of it.
hi gang, anything good to know or tips for someone interested in getting into this from scratch/literally no knowledge and isn't already in the OP's pastebins?
>>130219630My top tip would be don't make the same mistake I did and watch too many YT tutorials before actually using your DAW. The first few months will probably be spent figuring out the DAW, your preferred workflow and what works for sound selection and composition. For me, this part was very frustrating and daunting and made it hard to want to open the DAW on some days (sometimes for weeks on end), and I tried to justify it by watching YT tutorials so that I was still 'learning something', but all I needed to do was spend more time in the DAW experimenting and trying my best to make what I could. It's really obvious in hindsight, but it's easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of stuff you have to learn and fall into these kinds of procrastination traps. Pic unrelated.

I have been doing "MPC May" and I gotta say I hated working with midi on my computer. I like it way more on the live 3. I have to actually finish the things I start but I'm getting faster at making up my own workflow. Going to work on a beat while I get my hair twisted
