During the actual meeting, according to Krogh’s memo, Elvis criticized The Beatles quite bluntly. The memo paraphrases him, but includes a striking quote:“The Beatles came to America, made their money, and then went back to England where they promoted an anti-American theme.”He lumped them in with what he saw as a broader counterculture problem, drug use, protest movements, and anti-establishment attitudes.
