One common complaint I hear about the Richard D James album is that it's the shortest album of his career, but if you add Melodies From Mars onto the bonus tracks version of Richard D James Album, it becomes a little longer than SAW85-82 but shorter than the bonus tracks version of I Care Because You do, and sits at a better length. He once said that Melodies from Mars was intended to be a double album that never came to be, so merging them this way sort of creates a double album with two contrasting sides.

And furthermore, if you added Donkey Rhubarb's tracks onto this, you'd get an album almost as long as Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2. Hell, that combination would probably be my favourite album of his, I love the sound of that era.
