With all the reignited hype due to the movie, I've been relistening to MJ catalog, but I never heard Invincible because I was 3 when it came out everyone says it's not good and MJ was washed.I finally heard it and it's insane how, even during his washed era, MJ is still amazing. What were people talking about saying this was bad?
>>130203969i swear to god anyone who says this albums isn't good is mentally retarded, literally btfo any rnb in the last 10-20 years easily, some of his best work
>>130203969He was mired in scandals at that point and having an acrimonious dispute with Sony. Martin Bashir's documentary would only further damage his reputation and then came the lawsuit. All things considered, Invincible was destined to be invisible
>>130204030You also had 9/11 occur just a little over a month before the album came out, so that didn't help either.
You can't really say "MJ is still amazing" when you look at how many different producers and millions of dollars went into making the album. Even then, it was very lackluster and the official music video for it's lead single seemed like a parody of what he was in the past. It sucks.
>>130204072Hence why I call it Invisible. Literally nobody but the most dedicated fans noticed it.
>>130203969There's a love song on this he was inspired to write after a waterballoon fight with two little boys:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speechless_(Michael_Jackson_song)
>>130204098producers arent writers incase youre confused, regardless, even if he didnt write most songs on his album, hes still phenomenal in terms of his craft, which involves singing and dancing, anyway most normies have shit taste anyway, that album was very new jack heavy, appraoching niche territory
>>130204319His craft was grooming and molesting children.
>>130204319He squeals and grabs his crotch while sliding around backwards. Some people might enjoy it but I don't. Musicians like Madonna, Prince, George Michael, Van Halen and Aerosmith are what defined the '80s. Michael Jackson was just Quincy Jones' latest boy toy.
>>130203969For the amount of money pissed away on this shit, it had to be MBDTF times a million to justify it. Instead it was crap that was already outdated when he started recording it in 1997.
He was old at this point and he was seen as a joke by everyone so the public had moved on. As mentioned already, 9/11 happened and it shifted people's taste in music a lot where they weren't interested in dance music.
>>130204369he wrote/co wrote many hits, you are extremely retarded
>>130203969Amazing album. It's got Rodney Jerkins producing and he was fresh off making Destiny's Child huge stars so the production is incredible and the songs are just killer. Back then everyone wrote it off without listening to it "lol no hits Jacko = finished" type thing and most people are still like that..... but the more time goes by the more it'll be "oh wait this shit is actually amazing."
>>130203969it's fine but it's incredibly scatterbrained, but don't pretend this is anywhere near as good as off the wall or thriller. tracks like 2000 watts just suck
>>130208328Same I think it's very good but obviously not OTW good, the album not being promoted really affected it's sales
I skip Cry but I like everything else on it, Heartbreaker especially
>>130203969It's mid as fuck, doesn't helps that they played "You Rock My World" to death back then. A quarter of a century later and I don't want to hear "You Rock My World" not even once again.
>>130208267its definingly a grower, lot of factors back then that would impede its prevalence
