>>
go on RYM and create a new genre tag, bam, new scene invented
>>
>>130204210
It has become this grim these days. Anything can become an RYM genre in 2026

>>

I think it's cool that they have their own kind of scene going on. But I personally dislike these bands, as I generally dislike their influences.
>>
>>130204188
most of these bands have nothing to do with each other beyond sometimes playing the same shows, there is no scene, the internet ruined 'scenes'
>>
>>130204760
>most of these bands have nothing to do with each other beyond sometimes playing the same shows
that's a scene. you just described a scene. it's bands that play the same shows and have an overlapping fanbase.
>>
What do we think of these bands? Which do we like and which do we dislike?
Is this a musical movement? What is it called?
>>
>>130204188
pretty boring. it's all vibes based and none of them have a memorable song or hook
>>
>>130205106
On some level I agree. I wouldnt say none of them have memorable songs or hooks, but a lot of these bands have a really dialed in sound but aren't writing great songs. I think Fleshwater is getting popular because they do have memorable songs.
To me these are great songs

Deftones-core defines a lot of this. Not sure this movement is broad enough to fit Sunami and Gulch together with Fleshwater and Julie.

I like Fleshwater and Loathe but they aren't great live. Julie was good until their full length exposed them.

I think whatever is right now Die Spitz mogs whatever grouping you have listed here because they don't fall into the nu-metal/shoegaze or overly influenced by Deftones types of traps.
>>
>>130205784
i only know loathe and thornhill (they're my favorite) since I mainly listen to metalcore. which bands are most like them?
>>
>>130206555
They're definately not all the same genre but the resurgence of metalcore, deftones worship, post-hardcore sound feels like they're related
>>130206645

>>
>>130204188
I haven't heard some of these but Fleshwater sucks. Super corny vocals, unremarkable music.
>>
>>130206805
In a world with Black Midi, Black Country New Road, Geese I will never understand this. But they are on the popier side of the spectrum

Faggotry

Gulch were great though. 1 EP. 1 LP. Done.

Not entirely, they have to be playing the same genre. Playing together doesn’t make a scene, they are all just currently touring to promote themselves amongst a wider audience.
>>
>>130207496
Go make up more genres tranny. I can see why you do that, its almost like when you make up your pronouns.

>>
>>130204782
'Some shows' a scene does not equal. They probably are all under the same booking agency.
>>
>>130204921
I used to see them when they were called Sinema. They'll blow up bigger when they release a new record. The kids yearn for a mall screamo band that knows what's up with underground hardcore/screamo bands and isn't just some manufactured TikTok core fake band. These kids know what's up and will do right by themselves and their peers.
>>
>>130204782
Fleshwater is Deftones worship with girl vocals
I Promised is warped tour core
Julie is a fake shoegaze band
Febuary is a screamo band
Sunami is a beatdown hardcore band
Bleed is Nu-Nu-Metal
None of these bands came up together and they will play a small festival together or small tour run but they're all widely different and constitute no scene unless your decided to crush them all down into some dumb new genre.
>>
>>130207927
That's true but it wouldn't be the first time. The grunge bands are all different genres, but they seem to represent a similar wave. There's a vibe that wasn't there pre 2020. They don't have to be the same genre to be a cohesive trend in music. It's bigger than a nu metal revival or something like that
>>130207891
Yeah they're next up

IPTW definitely feel like they're paying homage but also not just blatantly being stagnant. The growth from Fear the Fall to their new EP is huge for a group of guys as young as they are. I hope they keep experimenting but I genuinely feel like they're gonna be fucking massive.
>>
>>130206852
all those bands are associated with new york, and london/the uk

all of these bands seem to be from middle america, which does not lead to being called the new nirvana on rolling stone magizine

Fleshwater is alright.
I tried getting into julie a few times and they just come off as Boa's royalty free version.
Sunami sucks
The rest I haven't heard.
>>
>>130212421
All great bands, great people! I'm from that scene, metalcore, hardcore, and indie were always the biggest exports, and a lot of the same people played in both. This new scene is a natural adaptation because is blends both.
>>
>>130204188
still too much metalcore and most of them don't actually understand or love nu metal, which was a product of its time and aimed at kids, but this is pandering to nostalgia
i've yet to hear a single banger that remained stuck in my head the way nu metal was churning out memorable singles
I find them analogous to the trend of so-called elevated horror movies with filmmakers doing callbacks to old trash horror movies but still desperate to be evaluated highly by contemporary critics
it's like... deftones is david cronenberg. it became respectable, canonized. ohh, body horror gore is intellectualized now. ohh deftones wasn't like limp bizkit, it was shoegaze, you see. so they all want to be deftones instead of fred durst or shinoda.

I don't think they really qualify for this (anymore), but MSPAINT are goated. Picrel was hard af.

>>130206555
exposed them as what?
>>
>>130219442
Nu metal wasn’t aimed at kids, it just came into existence at a time where young people were the ones most accepting of it because they hadn’t turned into pretentious faggots. Nu metal is a genre that’s persevered because it’s legitimate. Northlane, Tallah, Fever 333, Cane Hill, newer BMTH, Wargasm, etc.
>>
>>130204188
cursetheknife should have more recognition.
>>
Will this be culture influence of 20's? Right now it looks like period with those bands emerging just like in 90's hed and filer did.
