I keep having these nightmares in which I’m at his house Far Leys, in Tanworth-in-Arden, and it’s really overcast and windy outside, and I’m in the living room, standing next to a piano, desperately trying to speak to Nick while he’s sitting on the couch and staring blankly at a wall. I become frustrated and resort to yelling and demanding any reaction from him at all, which is of course ignored! And then his dad comes into the room and calmly explains to me that he hasn’t spoken in months due to severe mental illness. For some reason he then suggests I try to talk to Nick about Morocco, which I do, but Nick still can’t engage. So I realize he really is dying. I wake up terrified and on the verge of tears. I feel like if I had been there, I would’ve helped him. I would’ve saved him, because I understood him. We’re the same
>>130207049his music is wholly unremarkable but gets a lot of unwarranted attention at the expense of vastly superior stuff by arguably less attractive but much more talented artistsbut nick is a marketer's wet dream: cute young sensitive folk singer who died young - it's the perfect tragic backstory so now we all have to hear pink moon a million times for the rest of eternityI mean, nothing against nick but I'd be totally fine never hearing that shit again
>>130207049Dead legends thread? For me, it's Jeff. (Nope, not Tim. Sorry but Starsailor really blows ass.)
>>130207228Name the allegedly superior musicians who get no attention
>>130207347You, me, the list could go on
>>130207228>unwarranted attention at the expense of vastly superior stuff by arguably less attractive but much more talented artistsName them. Are we talking the other Boyd produced stuff from that era like Incredible String Band? Richard Thompson? Sandy Denny?
>>130207397For me it's Pentangle
>>130207397>>130207532me personally I love Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, AND Nick Drake
>>130207397>>130207532>>130207699Why did Cuckgau never review Comus? Or did he the spammer would know
>>130207779I thought Comus were very obscure until recently
>>130207790>>130207790They relatively were in their time. Definitely not on the level of recognition as like Fairport or Jethro Tull
>>130207049>One of the few who showed some interest in Nick’s songs was the French singer Françoise Hardy. She contacted Boyd to let him know that she thought the songs were great and that she would like him to write some for her. A meeting was arranged in her Paris apartment. That visit wasn’t exactly a great success. Arriving in the apartment on the Isle St. Louis Drake withdrew in himself.” He never said a word,” remembers Hardy in the documentary A Skin Too Few. “It was excruciating,” said Joe Boyd. “Nick sat there, head down, drinking his tea and didn't say a word the whole time; and I had to fill in the awkward silences.”What did he mean by this?
>>130208183Nick realized he didn't want Mick Jagger's sloppy seconds and decided to be a chud and make it awkward
>>130208201Francoise was a sweet, innocent cherub you swine!
>>130210409That's why Mick had to get it on
>>130207228You're not gonna post a solo acoustic and vocals album as good and soulful as Pink Moon. His finger plucked open tuning songs are some of the best ever made and you cant link better
>>130207301Location and Happy Sad are the masterpieces. Tim is in another league well above Jeff and 3ven Jeff knew this. Jeff didnt have an ounce of the vocal power his father did he just had the occasional pretty boy voice
>>130208183Sounds exactly like my schizo friend who was a punk guitarist savant
>>130207228https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLXbTMyTDcU>>130210569Lorca *
>>130207301Starsailor is amazing and as >>130210569 already said, Tim had the superior voice and was a fearless experimentalist. Jeff was obviously very talented but his father really is in another league.
>>130207049Do you think he would've been a gooner if he was born in the 90s? He definitely would've gotten addicted to JRPGs
>>130207301>Sorry but Starsailor really blows ass.Dangerously based
>>130207228>nick is a marketer's wet dream: cute young sensitive folk singer who died young - it's the perfect tragic backstory so now we all have to hear pink moon a million times for the rest of eternityCrazy to me that this is what you get from his music. "Pink Moon" literally means the apocalypse. End of days. He's cooing calmly to you in your final moments on earth. It's the sound of clinical depression - which is only reinforced by the same image you mentioned above. He had everything going for him, born tall, handsome, talented, with a silver spoon. But the world can be a cruel place when your brain chemistry isn't right.I really don't know how you can listen to his work and not hear this coming through. It's English folk, but whittled down to its essence by the hands of someone who doesn't have energy left to deliver anything more than the pure truth in its simplest form. It's like a cyanide capsule dressed up as soft plaintive folk music. No catharsis, just sheer acceptance of fate.
