Doesn't get better than this
He botches pieces he doesn't like, just listen to what he did to Chopin and the C major prelude from WTC I for example
>>130211118>chopinShouldn’t be playing that trash anywayHis c major prelude is fine
I don't understand himhe would regularly talk about how music exists as this abstraction outside of the physical worldhe didn't think timbre was important to the actual pieceand yet he played piano and was obsessed with recordingsalso the singing while he's playing makes no sensehis hatred of romantic music but his love for perfect cadences then a sudden, inexplicable embrace of atonalismhonestly fuck this guy
>>130211015>goldberg
>>130211195(((Gould)))>>130211118Who actually listens to this guy's Chopin? But like the other guy I like his WTC (well most of them).
>>130211167He was basically just insane. Sure, he could be a brilliant player, but his mind was absolutely cracked.
>>130211015I dislike his variations. This is my favorite:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcNjrUv2hqU
>>130211590It does tick me off that people act like Gould wrote the Goldbergs. There's plenty of other great performances of them. Claudio Arrau did an excellent piano recording of them before Gould, but opted not to release it because Wanda Landowska convinced him it was supposed to be harpsichord music.
>>130211195Goldberg actually had nothing to do with the Goldbergs. The association was made up long after Bach died.
>>130211167He was severely autistic. But maybe that's why he such a godly player (ignoring his interpretations)
>>130211118>WTC IReminds me of that tragedy
>>130211683>Once, when he was just seven or eight, Jessie Greig asked him to join in a game of marbles. He wanted to play, but when he put his hand down and found the ground cold, he withdrew it at once, and said, “I’m afraid I can’t.”
>>130211015Goldberg variations were done the best by Kimiko Ishizaka. Gould was turbo autist that was only good for fugues.
>>130211578All he did was mimic Warhol and pop culture as a whole. Makes perfect sense, pop music is 99% recycled Bach anyway. All strategy and marketing, no brilliance. Let alone insanity.Nothing wrong with that, just clever, pompous and full of pretence. Music made for sheeple - the way Bach loved to make it.
>>130211967Ok, sure, he had plenty of marketing. But behind it, he really was nuts. Towards the end of his life, he was a sever hypochondriac who went to see numerous doctors to get dozens of prescriptions for imagined maladies that he would fill notebooks analyzing the symptoms of.
>>130212131>replying to trolls or retardsJust stop anon.
>>130212190Never.
>>130211744His mannerisms make it so clear this is indeed singing that is true
>>130212388>singing something*Damn autocorrect

>>130216068>>130214651
>>130211967>all he did was mimic Warholanon.. aren’t you forgetting something?
>>130214651Might as well just play it on Casio keyboard then if you're gonna play on a piano.
>>130219472Might as well listen to skeletons fucking on a tin roof in a thunderstorm if you're gonna play on a harpsichord.
