They and Red Krayola are the best out of the Texas scene

Technically Janis Joplin was before she moved to SF and got together with Big Brother & The Holding Company. Like the other anon said ZZ Top was around that scene as well but it was mainly these obscure psych-garage bands like The Golden Dawn and Shiva's Headband. The cops and Texas Rangers shut that scene pretty quick though on account of them being stoned as fuck hippies and it being 1960s Texas

hell yeah man. Love all the OG psych shit. Tbdesu I don't really find most of it to be actually all that psychedelic, in the sense that it doesn't really trip me out at all. In a world where we have shit like Autechre of Phish or whatever else that actually bends my brain, all that stuff is just fun and feels good. I bet it all sounded crazy at the time though.

He always wrote great songs, even if he had a Syd Barrett tier brain fry.
So that even fucking Ghost covered them.

Where did he confirm this?

Look up a trio of compilations titled Fort Worth Teen Scene. It's a lot of teenage garage-rock from shortly before 13th Floor Elevators and Red Krayola putnout theor first albums. I'm pretty sure all of the bands featured on those compilations only ever put out a few singles at the most. I have all thress comps on vinyl, but you can find them on streaming services.
