Why do people like music that is intentionally meant to suck like punk? It's like cucking yourself. It's probably tied with rap culture in terms of cringiness.

>>130212493there are elements about this particular music that it excels at that other genres are lacking. you have a narrow view of what music can and should be so it mostly goes over your head
punk was a reaction against prog music and it was also a way to return rock to being energetic and rebellious like it was in the 50s, i like prog but prog was for upper class poshos and punk was for poor people and returned it to its roots while also revitalizing it for the youth
>>130212555>punk was a reaction against prog musicNo it fucking wasn't, this is a myth/straight-up lie pushed by music journalists. Most of the formative punk musicians of the mid-70s to early 80s don't even say anything negative about prog, in fact a few even like the genre. The "punk vs prog" war is bullshit made up by music journos in the 70s to help push punk as a brand/its own distinct culture for clueless teenagers to drive up sales. You didn't start to see punk bands openly hate prog until later waves of punk in the mid-late 80s, long after progressive rock kind of died down, and this hatred was just regurgitating music journalists from the late 70s/early 80s.
>>130212493I like punk, and in particular pop-punkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJMwMCOH90w
>>130212780>punk "musicians"Lmao that's a stretch calling them that.
>>130212989Pop punk isn't punk. I like pop punk too
>>130212493fun live shows + lower skill ceiling which encourages participation and a more diy ethos
I like punk because punk bands back in the day shit on the status quo and questioned authority and promoted rebellion
>>130213304As long as it was left-leaning promotion - and that's a good thing! Yay Reddit we did it!
>>130213344I listen to leftist bands like Gang of Four and then Oi bands like no remorse. People back then just “got it”
>>130212493The whole point of punk music is live shows and audience participation, a lot of nerds struggle to grasp this
it was the whole intimacy of being in a basement punk show which was something one never got at a Boston or Journey concert back then
>>130213284Pop-punk grew out of punk
punk is arguably the single most important thing to ever happen to music dude, show some respect
>>130212493People like punk because it has a very low bar for musicianship and it's energetic, so it's easy to get a four-piece band together in a backyard and make it a good time.
>>130212555>punk was for poor peoplePunk was rich trust fund brats modeling clothes for high-street boutiques. Literally the Supreme hypebeasts of the '70s. The music sucked because they didn't actually have talent, just money.
>>130214453Boston and Journey both have incredible musicians and songwriters lmao who the fuck would rather be in a basement with some smelly retards who can't play their instruments or even sing. Punk is so dumb
>>130214697
>>130212493Zoomers grew up far too insulated and isolated in their bedrooms and online to understand why punk rock was important to so many young people. Zoomers would rather give up the fight, listen to Ethel Cain and castrate themselves than find a collective group of male outcasts to bond with in a masculine yet fun way like the older punk scenes were about.
>>130214769>bringing up le oomer boogeyman unpromptedYou're younger than the people you're complaining about.
>>130214750ok edgelord
>>130214588i went to two shows at a house that a bunch of punks had occupied and it was really fun. bands traveled from the other side of the country to play there, they sold beer out of crates without a license so we could get drunk and sing along to songs we didnt really know. city gave them the house and made it all legal so its probably really boring there now.
>>130212555 lefties talk about something being for poors like it's a good thing, weird lol
>>130212533pretty much. >>130212780it really depends on the wave honestly. John Lyndon loved Can and Pink Floyd despite wearing an anti-Pink Floyd shirt, which was a prop given to him by Malcolm McLaren. hardcore, on the other hand was more genuine in its hatred towards anything that smacked of the 70s. Jello Biafra is a prime example of this mentality.
>>130216580of course, as an aside, Black Flag and the SST crew saw this first hand and decided to do the exact opposite and Ginn was openly a fan of Captain Beyond, ZZ Top, and The Grateful Dead.
