Once you realize that vocals are basically just like an advanced synth instrument autotune won't even cross your mind anymore. It's just like any other effect you put on vocals, delay, distortion, eq, etc. I just feel like anytime I listen to a new song I think is good, I go to the comments and see countless midwits complaining about autotune and how "music just isn't like how it used to be, all natural" Which is so dumb because older songs, yes they may not have had autotune, but they sure as hell had 15 other different things going onto their voice. Saturation, eq, reverb, etc.

snapping all the pitches to be perfectly in tune removes a lot of the expressive power of singing a little sharp or a little flat. same issue as quanitization. some rhythmic "sloppiness" is actually good for the song.

Most people who use heavy autotune are bad singers and use it as a crutch, and as a result it's just bad vocals instead of a cool sound effect.
