I recently listened to this and I thought it was just regular California Hard/Stoner Rock with some good guitar rifs but there's nothing interesting about it to make it worth discussing. It's not funny, but it's not really cringy either.
So I want to understand why this album is so relevant on this board to the point of becoming a meme here, because I found it to be as average and irrelevant as this music can get.

QOTSA lost all their thrill when Nick Oliveri got kicked out.
>>
They never made a good album after Lullabies. Not even a good song after it.
>>

Dean Ween wrote the best QOTSA guitar solo on Make It With Chu
>>
Battery Acid fucks
>>
their only good album was like clockwork, the rest is pretty much buttrock
>>
>>130215985
Yeah, pretty much
>>
>>130215985
Finally someone gets it, although I'd argue they have some cool songs after that, Lullabies was definitely the last good album

>like cockwork
Gay album for low test people who cry when they fuck
>>
Congratulations anon, you have been FILTERED!

Listen to it again. It's literally their least "regular" and more disjointed album. That shit sounds at times like it's falling apart from how roughly put together it sounds. It all somehow works because the riffs are some of the grooviest they ever wrote and the concept fits the music (and the artwork).
>>

This album cover sucks ass
>>
>>130221294
OP here, I find it to be their most regular album lol
>>
>>130221340
To me the riffs and solos on EV sound much more robotic and """angular""" than anything from the preceding albums. Only Make It With Chu sounds like it would fit on any of their other albums.
>>
what was that qotsa riff that sounded like a stray riff? that was cool
>>
My guess is because it was written off by fans and critics immediately and for a very long time. I'd been a fan of EV since day 1 even with other fans of qotsa in my friend group completely writing it off so there's a bit of vindication involved that might exaggerate a bit here since I wasn't alone with this sentiment.
I absolutely adored the angular riffs, the constant atmosphere shifts between creepy and uninviting to absolute elation (I'm Designer, Into the Hollow and Misfit Love still give me goosebumps after all these years when they "open up"), there's some incredibly groovy riffs and solos sprinkled throughout and tracks like Make It Wit Chu and Suture Up Your Future have come to define summer for a lot of millennials that grew up with the album since those tracks really capture the desert atmosphere well.
Calling it their "most regular" album is also not a serious critique at all because tracks like Turnin On the Screw, Battery Acid and Run Pig Run are some of the most dissonant and weirdest tracks in their catalog.
Shit even the singles are absolutely out there aside from Make It, dropping 3's and 7's and Sick Sick Sick as singles would be too weird for any of their previous albums for a bonus track inclusion. Like seriously after Lullabies and tracks like Little Sister being as successful as they were commercially for really being your typical 3 minute rock song, try pitching a track like I'm Designer that takes three quarters of the song to get to a hook. It was very bold to say the least.
I do think though that the main point of its relevance here isn't because it really changed the genre or was a seismic, influential album or anything but just because fans of the album are finally feeling like it's okay to openly love after like two decades of even big fans of the band calling it shit.

When QOTSA had Lanegan and Oliveri they were special. After that not very much.

That said, EV has a few good songs on it but a lot of filler that I can't even remember hearing. Misfit love is good. I also agree with the other anon about it being their most angular and robotic sounding album rather than most regular.

This is the first time I've seen this albums specifically posted in years so idk what you're talking about.

>Lullabies

Wrong, lullabies is also shiet besides maybe Someone's In The Wolf
>>
it's just a bit meh. Not sure why t would seen as memeworthy.

Make it WIt Chu is great though.
Also I had no idea until just checking on wiki there was a bonus track called Era Vulgaris with Trent Reznor on wtf. Must be really dull to have escaped my attention.

Hi Nick how's it going mate?

That track is pretty good. A bit of a slow burner, but with a pretty neat atmosphere. To me, EV needs to be listened with the bonus tracks to get the full experience.

I mean, the album is not bad but the Bonus Tracks on the Spotify Version are utter shit, specially the Hot Chip techno remix of a song, we should murder Joe Goddard for his crimes to the art of music.
