Why is nu-metal not considered metal or part of metal when 2020s pop music has nothing to do with being mainstream or being upbeat like in the past decades?
second part of what you said is incomprehensible nonsense but why is there a distinction made between metal and nu-metal? one has record scratches and rapping and ska elements. https://youtu.be/2eu--4eb8X8
>>130219849what even is this post, is english not your first language or something?
>>130219849nu-metal's appeal is not metalheads appealit's doesn't focus on being "heavy", guitar solos nor guitar riffsits culture differs from metalheads, it didn't came from metalheads nor does it bother to appeal to metalheadsthe only similarity is that there is some metal influence
big room house is still housesmooth jazz is still jazzpop punk is still punk
>>130219849Because it has no musical relation to metal other than "loud", and there's plenty of guitar music that's loud and not metal. No metal riffs = not metal. It's not hard. The name is pure marketing, and y'all fell for it then as you're falling again for it 30 years later. Grow up.>>130220068>nu-disco is still disco>breakbeat hardcore is still hardcorethis is how stupid you sound
>>130222306but linkin park and evanescence do have metal riffs
>>130219849"Nu-" is a negative prefix which connotes something be "new bad". In the very way it was labelled, it was treated as lesser than. Why would that be? Most nu-metal is extremely wiggerish, for one, and metal had a sizable amount of racism in the scene prior and to this day. People who already inhabited the metal space found that "nu-metal" conflicted with what they saw as their core values, and so rejected the subgenre.St. Anger is an album that's nu-metal adjacent and is called by purists the worst of Metallica's albums, despite it being of excellent quality to someone whose taste in "metal" leans more toward the nu-metal camp. If you like the Slipknot album and Infest, you are more likely to enjoy this album than say Master Of Puppets.
>>130219871I'm and english speaker and everything he said was understandable. He is talking about music changing and still being on the same genre. Like Rock, like Pop, etc.But Nu-Metal is considered too far apart from Metal. When in reality is not really that far apart not that much at least.
>>130222788>despite it being of excellent quality to someone whose taste in "metal" leans more toward the nu-metal camplol no
>>130222788No its not a negative prefix that is delusional. It could have been called Metal with Rap sections or Hood Metal or Urban Metal but that would have been lame and gay af so Nu-Metal is just more fitting.
>>130219849>Why is nu-metal not considered metal or part of metalIt is , its just a subdivision of metal that has other influences in it.
>>130219892>it didn't came from metalheadsIt did though. Slipknot was all metal guys, Sepultura was obviously a thrash band. It's only later on when the genre became watered down that it barely resembled metal.
>>130223043>No its not a negative prefix that is delusional.you're new and esl if you think this
>>130223248>"Slipknot was all metal guys">*lead singer performs in pop bands*
>>130223037I am speaking from experience. I thought Metallica was lame dadrock till I heard St Anger from here and finally experienced something that fits my preexisting taste from them, which favored the heavy and raw approach already present in nu-metal.
This is all you need to know about Nu-metal's relationship with rest of the metal/heavy scene.https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MiwuI5FZnL0
>>130224357Melvins are a great band, but Buzz bitches about almost everything
>>130222306nu disco is disco breakbeat hardcore is hardcorethis is how smart I sound
>>130219849Based nu-metal enjoyer>>130222788I like some nu-metal, and St Anger has some okay moments, but I definitely prefer Master of Puppets to St Anger, and I'm not really much of a classic metal fanMoP is just a great albumhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_ITtP033RIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPfmlpiBEk8
because it's pop music.
>>130223016>I'm and english speaker
>>130219892Lmao as if nu-metal was the only metal subgenre that was like that
>>130222593Occasionally yes but it is not the focus. I can't stand Linkin Park but I'll admit the intro/verse part of One Step Closer has a very solid guitar riff. But that's the exception to the rule. And both of these bands have utterly nothing going on in with the guitars in the choruses, because they are vocals focused, not guitar focused bands.>>130226417Yes, fundamentally nu-metal is vocals focused pop rock music. That doesn't mean it can't be good, but if isn't guitar forward and consistently using identifiable metal riffs and leads it is not metal.>>130227024Well sure black metal doesn't solo often sure but it extensively uses minor key tremolo picking which is a hallmark of death metal and thrash metal riffing styles too, subgenres with more soloing.
Nu-Metal is more metal than any of that pre-80s shit.
Why is punk rock not considered metal? It's loud and enjoyed by most metalheads. Hell, most extreme metal has some punk influence in it. A lot of metal band members have dabbled in it at some point. Some punk riffs are even thrasy/groovy. Surely all this means that punk is metal.
>>130219892Some nu metal is pretty heavyAnd at least they still had riffsHave you heard modern metal? The current zeitgeist is just LOUD NOISE
>>130228201>my widdle eaws can't pwovess the wiffs!skill issue
>>130219849It's not metal because it doesn't sound like muh heckin extreme metal. Traditional metal doesn't exist.
