Am I the only one in thinking the vocals on Prophecy are the first time we’ve heard their actual voices on record? It sounds like a live vocal put through a vocoder and then heavily manipulated. Not only do I hear a slight Scottish inflection in certain words (“God” in particular), but I’m pretty sure the voice that begins with the line “synchronicity” is different from the voice we have heard up until that point. I never would have expected the boys to trade bars on record, but here we are.
>>130231188I’m guessing it is. I had the identical thought.
>>130231029You really didn't have to create a new thread, the last thread hasn't even reached the bump limit yet.
>>130231253brother i could not wait any longer, it was my turn
>>130231188It's Seyyed Hossein Nasr
new singles were incredibly disappointingintroit was fine, but sounded like a music has the right to children extra, without any of the analogue charm.prophecy was incredibly boring. i don't like the little pauses before the beat kicks in again, find them really cringe / dubsteppy, along with the vocal sample which makes the whole thing almost unlistenable past 2:30.>muh transcend void matrix kafkaesque meaning of life who is your god now??if i could only use words to describe to an ai what boards of canada sounded like, and then told it to make a song based on the description i gave it, it would give me these singles, really hope the rest of the album isn't like this because i love bocalso the video was soulless
>>130231708I am meh on the song but the video was based
>>130231733it was very well done but it gives the strong impression that this was made by a boc fan and not boc themselves, which i suppose the music gives toorobert beatty is a capable visual artist (album cover designer for dedicated to bobby jameson, currents), but this didn't do it for me. nothing from any of this has its own unique vibe, the way mhtrtc, geogaddi etc do. just a bunch of call backs to stuff they've previously done, like the nuclear family silhouettes in the video or the guitars in the song
"this song sounds like I prooompted it!" is truly the midwit take of our time. Cool lets hear your cool as fuck AI Boards esque songs then, that will no doubt dwarf the duo in notoriety before long. Oh wait
Anyone else think Prophecy At 1420 MHz would go well as the soundtrack to a level on a Rez like game?
People calling Prophecy At 1420 MHz dark is crazy to me. This is maybe the most playfully "fun" track they've ever done, it's straight up funky. People comparing it to Geogaddi as well which is even crazier, that album has actually creepy and disturbing sounding songs, this is a far cry from that. It's like their light version of a Geogaddi maybe? There's nothing heavy or oppressive about the track, Reach for the Dead is a way darker lead single than this.
>>130232202People who think any BOC song is dark or creepy get scared watching MGM films when the lion roars at the beginning
>>130232202It's a straight Hell Interface banger.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkXxQL-nyQw
>>130232202I can get where it's coming from, there's a driving industrial element to it and that's a style people generally associate with dark or heavy music
>>130232229lol come on bits of Geogaddi are definitely fucked up. They didn't put Gyroscope on the Sinister soundtrack because it is a nice and breezy song
Note: I distance myself from the authors' obvious Satanic beliefs.
>>130232471Are they really satanic, though? Or are they instead warning about satanic shit spreading under the cover of faith and spirituality?
>come on bits of Geogaddi are definitely fucked up
>>130232610>I am so heckin unreddit because I can't see why Gyroscope et al. might be unsettling to someok chud
>>130232596Nobody knows wtf they're on about. In past interviews they've said they're not devil worshipers, though. With BoC it's "muh mystery." Very cryptic things embedded into tracks. A good example is a sample of a southern-sounding woman ordering chicken fingers at a drive-thru spliced into two of their songs.tl;dr: they're having fun with it. Probably no deeper meaning than that.
>>130232596Yes they told in an interview that they aren't satanists. Why should they admit that? You see boc would not have that many fans if they'd stated directly in the interview that they are satanists. You can bet on that. That's the reason why they said this... just for the fans. Sure not all of their tracks are about satanism, but alot. Just look how many times they refer to the devil or how many times alone this word appear in their tracktitles. One time alone would be even enough. But if you believe in what they said in their interviews… they said among others that they make music about stuff they are interessted in. That's one of the few things i believe them. They were indeed interessted in the devil, the davidians and whatnot. But if it's all not true and it is all only ''art'', then answer me this question: Why do so many satanists like boc? Coincidence?
>>130231188It's sampled from a lecture by Seyyed Hossein Nasr.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIjW1z-ZAX8Timestamps here:https://bocpages.org/wiki/Prophecy_At_1420_MHz
The only part I legitimately dislike about Prophecy is that part at the beginning where it goes quiet and then it has that beat drop, everyone was doing that shit like 10 years ago, you'd see it in trailers and shit too and for BoC to pull the same thing is genuinely disappointing because it has never sounded cool.
>>130232634bro come on, it's not scary or unsettling. You're overthinking it and jumping on a bandwagon to make the music appear to be more than it is. Aka REDDIT
Prophecy reminds me of their Hell Interface remixes, very cool
>hipster electronic for elitist dipshits to masturbate toyeah, that's a no from me. I'll stick to Burial and Aphex Twin
>>130233499Watch out, you'll upset the "tard" poster (he's very sensitive)
>>130233687you don't interact with tripfags, duh. therefore it you who is the tard.yourstardanon x
>>130233499I don't understand how or in what way BoC fans are more elitist than Burial/Aphex
>>130233740because the music that BoC makes isn't novel in it's sound or design, so they latch onto the hidden "meanings" + nostalgia meme to add more depth and originality than actually exists. Aphex and Burial actually have a unique sound.
>>130233773tard
>>130233726>you don't interact with tripfagsExcept you just saw me interact with a tripfag :S The call has been coming from inside the house this entire time, I fear...
Shant be listening until the entire thing drops. Want to go in blind
>>130233687>>130233740Don't make me tap the sign
>>130233773>Aphex and Burial actually have a unique sound.lol
>>130233773>he doesn't know BoC invented Burial's sound in 1995https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qch6wUiRrfg
>>130234353i'm so salty they weren't more prolific/still will not release certain shit. we missed out on their shoegaze era, or more things like this that is unlike the rest of their work.
>>130232596The Turquoise Hexagon Sun is Saturn, which is Satan. Tons of their music is layered with references to it.Example: On the track Aquarius, the female voice counts in sequence until the number 36, if you add up all the numbers from one to 36, you get 666. If you add up all the numbers she lists, you get 1981, which was the year Saturn's hexagon was discovered during the voyager mission. I suspect the references to 'orange' and 'yellow ball' are likewise invoking Saturn. The logo also went through a color change from turquoise to orange, just like the hexagon.
>>130234494This will probably be the last album from them, so savor while you still can.Might be a visual album, too, which would be a fitting way to go out. Then, in 13-20 years, we'll probably get remasters of early, unreleased work in a BoC-set (possibly alongside art books or other kitsch).
HOOPER BAY/PLAY BY NUMBERSWHERE THE FUCK IS IT
So there's obviously going to be more videos for the album, but they probably will not drop until the album itself does or after even. Listening Parties however might actually show them all?
>>130234634the listening parties are gonna be the venues for the screenings, yeah. it's gonna be a 70 minute long movie with different videos for each track and then they'll probably upload a full feature to youtube to coincide with the album release date the end of this month.
>>130234614I ate Hooper Bay
>>130233773we know its you BACK2 tripfag
>>130233773BoC in many ways paved the way for acts like Burial and others with unique approach to sampling and sequencing.
>>130233170I never really got the whole thing about Geogaddi being some kind of satanically evil album. 1969 is straight up catchy
>>130231373>>130232769>Seyyed Hossein Nasrwhy are they using samples of some traditionalist Muslim dude... are they Muslim now? are they chuds? BoC this isn't looking good
>>130236428goofy inshallahh post
>>130231188>>130231373>>130232769Someone cut up the source video to arrange the words as BoC did in the song, minus the processing of coursehttps://youtu.be/L0ksmlfvNuQ
WE SO REDDIT BOIS. THE "BAND" IS FROM 1998 FROM WHERE GOOGLE WASN'T A THING EVEN. SO REDDIT NOT MYSPACE BOIS. DON'T BE SO REDDITY BOIS. YOU GAY FUCK ASSHOLES
>>130236865calm down BAYAR
>>130232596They understand the nature of consciousness and are speaking beyond the programming of abrahamic dualities. But to be fair to a Christian that is Satanism. 666, Saturn, hexagons, and ultimately carbon(6 protons, 6 electrons, 6 neutrons; and of course the constituent building block of physical life) have more to do with materialistic existence, which esoterically is the Satan within you to overcome. I take most of their stuff as fascination, reference for the sake of it, or tongue in cheek. If you have a background in /x/ stuff what they are referencing is pretty straight forward. Leans more towards eastern philosophies and non-duality.
>>130231768i wasn't sure at first but i think the track grew on me.the rest of the album ain't out yet so must hear the rest before a have a full opinion.
>>130233773bait used to be believable
Finally got around to listening to Prophecy at 1420 Mhz. Getting strong Kenji Kawai vibeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dmlwhaEEgE
>>130234606>This will probably be the last album from themAt the very least it’s their last record on warp. I think back in 1998 in an interview they mentioned they had a 5 album deal. Maybe now that their contract is up they might self-publish shit that doesn’t take a decade to come out? One can only hope
only boc track that i like is olsonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_lzNFjqGiw

>>130241187i caught ten fish
Reminder that speech soundbites have been given an expanded role on Inferno. So if you weren't digging the vocal sample in Prophecy, it's game over.
>>130241661oh we can tell
>>130241661Sucks for them, I don't get why people are freaking out about it anyways
>>130241661I don't think Prophecy is a vocal sample, I think it's one of the brothers quoting lines from that video with a vocoder over their voice.
>>130240519https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wubkrBd3-ggThis is one of the coolest things a fan of the band has done
>>130241661The only album of theirs that doesn't have vocals is Campfire Headphase anyway. Hopefully the fans latch onto something new from ORANGE, YEAH THAT'S RIGHT, YELLOW BALL, III'M LISTENING, SIXTYTEN BLUE AQUARIUS
https://archive.org/details/closes-vol-1-cd-r-ripProbably fake, but given the other couple of high res uploads we've seen this year... maybe
>>130242764so far the only "proof" of this being legit is that 5D is 20 seconds longer than A06.
>>130242764i'm very sure this is one of those mutt compilations of some tracks that sound vaguely like boc, some are actually boc (track 5 is literally just seven forty seven) but then some just sound like nothing boards would even attempt - i know, i know, it's very reddit of me to estimate what does and doesn't sound like them, but overall this just smells like another dud and that's what my gut is telling me
>>130242764Fake or not, Eye/Ear is amazing
>>130242713You can hear the two accents from the guys they sampled. It's not the brothers.
the new song sucks. it's basically a souped up vaporwave song, mastered within an inch of its life to impress little ears, but instead of developing it with songwriting ideas, they just threw different synths and sounds every minute to flail and strum about and mask the hollowness. then that absolutely embarrassing and shameful spoken word gibberish bit for a conclusion. this trash is not worth anyone's braintime.
>>130242960Wtf I hate the song now.
>>130242870>(track 5 is literally just seven forty seven)track 5 has been known for many years as A06 on R35TT, but that version is 4:57, and this version is 20 seconds longer than that and there's at least no obvious edit point where it's been fake extended.
>>130242960BoC made vaporwave before you were born.
>>130242960*Synthwave
>>130242960Wish they at least kept that guitar riff going throughout the track, everything that comes after is just too tacky
Prophecy curbed my hype just a tiny bit if I'm being honest, it's fine but it's not great. Tape 05 on the other hand was fantastic and Introit is very cool, so I think we have a good variety of tracks so far.
how many in BOC's fanbase are chilean?(yes, I'm in that porcentage)https://youtu.be/qtSwxrhsvvI?si=1d361tCviGbqoUy3
>>130245137Wait. Did they just steal that melody for the ad kek?
>>130244470I agree with you it's just kind of a bummer that the first song on the album is an eh one. Music Is Math, An Eagle In Your Mind, Chromakey Dreamcoat, even Gemini to a lesser extent are fantastic. Prophecy is... lacking something. The Popol Vuh middle eastern flute is the best part of it because its unique - the industrial sound is something that's been done before.I like comparing Boards of Canada to the best of the ambient artists... not to Nine Inch Nails
>>130245297I guess so?it has become a stable in Saint Thomas' brand image, and so far, neither Warp or BOC sued the university, so I guess they don't mind, that or they don't knowI can imagine some students became fans of BOC either way
>>130245308Yeah it's even worse when you compare it to their other first tracks (ignoring the intro ones) and again it's not even that its bad, it just isn't very interesting. I feel like the most I got out of that song was the very first listen, there's nothing new to appreciate about it beyond that. It's just a bland "banger"
>>130232229Kek, I audibly laughed
>>130233499I like BoC and Aphex but never understood the appeal for Burial, that shit sucks in comparison
Will they get in the top 100 on billboard with this? I kind of found it funny when they did with TH.
>>130245460>>130245297fuck there's even an medley version from some studients in ad from '22 https://youtu.be/EYcK-Hxiys4?si=AzH0SiuCOwk-Gu_q
>>130245137>>130245460>>130246678I hate them.
I won't lie, the more I listen to Prophecy the more I find myself seriously grooving with it, I just can't make sense of what the robot voice is supposed to represent thematically. I feel it makes more sense if you view it as some rogue AI slop or malicious force like hell interface trying to corrupt our thoughts and beliefs, albeit in an unconvincing way. If it's meant to be unironic and literal, then I can't really take it all that seriously. I'm sure for each song on the album like Prophecy, there will be an even more angelic Tape 05 to contrast it. Maybe that's the point, the tension between science and religion both taken to their extremes?
Sometimes you put on Olson knowing exactly how good it is beforehand, and every time it manages to be better than the memory of it is.
I think a lot of people who dislike the track are missing the fact that it’s the album’s opener. It makes much more sense if you think of it as the opening credits of a movie.
>>130252010I'm getting the feeling that this will be a very direct album, first the posters, then the song titles and now the lead single with actual lyrics. If TH was them taking themselves very seriously making an album about a dystopian future, then this feels like them having a bit of fun with the topic and maybe dropping some pretention. But that's just me speculating, way too early to say for sure.
>>130251728The textile sound-sensation of Olson, the rich warmth with pieces flying off it at every moment, like corona discharge on the surface of the sun, is something that nothing has ever come close to replicating for me. The “Olson / Pete Standing Alone” pair is unrivalled.
I hope that whatever instrumental used in the Inferno teaser makes it onto the album because it sounds really good.It starts with the exact synth sound that comes at the end of Introit leading into Prophecy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9h6fJg-KoAInferno tease is a cooler intro than Introit is, even though I like Introit.
Fuck me, I just listened to Tape 05 again for the first time in a while. This is genuinely top tier BoC, one of their most beautiful songs.
>>130236428Do you also believe every character in a book is a self-insert/mouthpiece for the author’s views? I think by this point BoC have earned the creative licence to put whatever cryptic/spiritual/occult references they like into their music without their audience assuming they literally mean every word. They’re voyagers in ideas, not ideologues.
>>130246678average BOC fans on display
>>130252849Tape 05 is probably "Father and Son", the fifth track on the album. They’re both about the same length.
>>130253170It's probably "Deep Time" because Tape 05 actually cuts off at 3:18, I think they made it 3:21 to be cheeky, counting down to the reveal. Deep Time to me is a fitting title of the music.
>>130253223>It's probably "Deep Time" because Tape 05 actually cuts off at 3:18True, I hadn't thought about that.
