Welcome all deadhead /mu/tants this is the place to discuss everything GD related and to post music, videos archives etc. Other jam bands like Phish can be discussed but mainly keep it Dead-centrichttps://youtu.be/M-cR8u0Jm9E?si=IO3Z_jnCDScH2oMPhttps://youtu.be/vGhMdhdDIlM?si=lETrU5YdnnzrJOUDhttps://youtu.be/1xb6UBL386k?si=z_qxwywgljuXanpX
Philhead reporting in
>>130240458can you rec me some spacey/out/freeform/ambient type jams that don't come out of drums>space?I'm that same phish head that commented last time lol, love me some dead but I'm way way less familiar than phish. That's the one thing I wish phish had that the dead did, drums>space. A "song" where as soon as it starts you know you're guaranteed to get some real deep trippy freeform shit. Hearing that type of shit through a massive soundsystem in a crowd of thousands of people on a headfull is so powerful, but dead/phish are really the only places you can get that, and with phish they hardly ever go full ambient/noise.I remember getting some '74 (i think) recs way back where all the big jams went deep into freejazz territory, stuff where it sounds like the band is falling apart, I love that type of shit too. The weirder the better for me

This the thread?
>>130243526what was in the briefcase?
bump
>>130243724drugs
>>130240458So do I have to be on drugs to enjoy this band or what?
>>130243091this is killer, ty. The answer to this question for me is almost always a dark star lol. Phil sounds incredible around 12-13 mins, gorgeous stuff. ~19 mins too>>130245045naw not really, but drugs are def a huge part of it and def the reason a lot of people end up in these spaces to begin with. There's just something about the combo of acid + the dead (and phish for me) that's some kind of magic synergy or something. I loved Phish for years before I ever took acid, then when I finally got to take it at a show it was like a huge awakening, like damn I really had no idea what this shit was capable of. It's a weird thing too because that moment feels so massive, but trying to explain it to other fans you realize everybody's had that moment at some point or another. That's partially how you end up with a fanbase this dedicated. I get that it seems silly from the outside and looks like it can be reduced down to "drugs lol", but it really is a lot more than that. But naw, try just putting it on and closing your eyes if you want, imagine it coming through a huge sound system in an outdoor venue and see if it works for you
Is Ween allowed in this thread? One of my favorite Dead covers of all timehttps://youtu.be/OE8X-qY3Csg?si=5j25tCoee46W1etH

Total shit band, cheap trash music
>>130252072...but enough about The Beatles
>>130240644try "the other one" from the 19/12/73 show, especially the second part of the song>>130250925good taste, speaking of february 68, i love the china cat>eleven>lovelight from the 2/14 show.killer alligator too>>130240458favorite china>rider guys?for me it's the 5/19/74 version, closely followed by 7/31/74, also the one from Veneta is very good
>>130252072You're just mad at the fans that aren't you. And that this is one band an audiophile or /mu/ nerd can't hate.
Any bands or musicians coming from a pop 80s angle and covering the dead? Or chiptune Dead?
>>130240644>>130243526i read old forum posts saying jerry consistently stank and smelled like he didn't bathe. my estimation of him as a man fucking plummeted after that
>>130255962That was when he started getting heavily into smoking crack and heroin in the late 70s. Before that he probably smelled no different than any other dirty hippie back then
>>130255962You're talking a few years of his whole life. The guy worked himself to death for music and gave away half the profits.
What does music sound like on LSD bros? I've listened to music stoned and/or drunk before and it was awesome but I probably will never be able to try acid
>>130256399chances are you live near a place where magic mushrooms grow.do your research and go out searching for them if you're interested in it
>>130257018There's fully legal analogues of Psilocybin and MDMA you can order online, not even on the DW iykyk
>>130256399>What does music sound like on LSD bros?Like a bag of sand

TRUCKINLIKE THE DOO DAAH MAN
>>130250925>>130254979Any more recs like these? I feel like there's not a lot of primal dead out there. The Organic Raspberry farm show is one of my favorites.Hot take but I prefer Pig and Brent over Keith. The Keith stuff feels like their weakest and I think Cornell is overrated as fuck
There's like a thousand dead songs. I listened to a few but I only liked Althea so far. What other songs would I probably like going off that?
>>130253384Who brought up the Beatles?
>>130259173define primal dead, is it anything pre-keith or anything pre-live/dead?11/10/67 is arguably the best example of what i regard as primal dead, great viola lee, litte schoolgirl, one of the first other ones (check out 10/22 if you wanna listen to the very first version) and a crazy 30+ min alligator>caution8/24/68 (two from the vault) is also a cornerstone of primal dead (i'm especially fond on that night's lovelight).>Cornell is overrated as fuckagreed, it still includes one of the very few post-hiatus jams comparable in quality to their pre-hiatus jams (scarlet>fire), but the rest is kinda mid, the much acclaimed version of dancin in the street is blown out of the water by 5/2/70 and many other from around that time, same for not fade away, just miles behind any '70 or '71 version.>>130259291you seem to prefer their ballads, check out wharf rat, bird song, loser, mississippi half-step, ship of fools; their studio albums wake of the flood and from the mars hotel include some good tracks
>>130255962>>130256054>>130256223might've been the uncontrolled diabetes too
>>130261813>define primal dead, is it anything pre-keith or anything pre-live/dead?Depends on who you ask. Most include Live/Dead in that era even some of the early Keith performances but nothing past 69' really
>>130255962Society's not worth washing for. Everyone needs to chill and smell natural. All those 'wash' products were tested on animals and are unnatural for the skin.
