the Kenny G of vocal jazz
>>130259885Did you expect anything from Canada to not suck?
>>130259885this was just like Yungblud and Ozzy, trying to steal his life force in the hope of becoming him. too bad it didn't work.
>>130259885i wouldn't say she was devoid of talent altogether, though it's pretty obvious that her music was not always the focal point of her album covers
>>130259885fucking Bed, Bath, and Beyond sound system music
What she does is legitimate. It's not like it's wrong. I don't like it, personally. Too smoky and her music has no real feel to it.
>>130259885She's indeed part of the RBF of modern jazz. Diana, Patricia Barber...Ugh. Their studio albums are fantastic and that's part of why they're so popular. Every goddamn hi-fi shop in the 2000s showing off stupid expensive equipment would showcase ut with Diana Krall or Patricia Barber recordings, but if you ever met them in person they were real stuck-up cunts who thought they were better than everyone else. A lot like Miles Davis being a notorious asshole in person. Oh well, at least you don't have to read liner notes or interviews with these guys.
>>130260258Krall doesn't touch the old legends like Ella, Billie, Peggy, Anita, etc. I don't think anyone claimed she did.
>>130259885so true. basically turned one of the moist soulful singing styles and turned it into music for wine aunts
>>130260420Vocal jazz was never good, brah. Most agree it's not real jazz and is just bad A/C music to listen to while drunk.
also a very distant live performer, not many have good opinions on her in a live setting
>>130260449the robot site has lots of "fucking hell, I saw Diana Krall live and she didn't even look at or acknowledge the audience the whole set" threads
>>130260184
what's funnier is that album #7 which had a bunch of 70s song covers felt more engaged than any of her jazz slop perhaps because she grew up with those songs and identified with them more than she did Cole Porter
