Was it really career ending bad?
>>130269293Never heard of this in my life but that cover art is gorgeous.
>>130269293Straight Lines is one of their biggest songs to date, and while there are a few good songs here, the album as a whole is underwhelming by Silverchair’s standards.
>>130269608>standardsno matter how good they really were compared to the rest of the post-grunge bunch, shitting out a song as corny as Anther For The Year 2000 made their demise totally deserved kek
>>130269293did they even have a career after frogstomp? fat boy is the only song i ever heard on the radio
>>130271102They only got bigger and better up until Diorama.
>>130271102In Australia they sure did.
>>130269293Better than their other shitty music
>>130269293>that album title >that album cover Militantly anti-taste
>>130271214Silverchair really had no business achieving international success, it was never going to last, but yeah they remained popular in Australia and if they reunited now it would be a big deal even if no one else in the world would notice or care. Nothing wrong with that, there are lots of great bands out there who are successful in their home countries but never make it internationally. Silverchair got a taste of that, but their career never ended because of a bad album, I'm pretty sure they broke up for personal reasons.
>>130271102ana's song and anthem got major play on MTV and radio
>>130271202Diorama is actually very good
>>130274062I agree, but it's not as good as Neon Ballroom and they obviously got worse from there.
>>130271102A few tracks from the Freak Show album got loads of air play on the radio in new york when there were still Alt rock stations
>>130269293It wasn't career-ending by that point. They were working on a new album for a few years after YM, but money had run out (which prompted them to do a tour around Australia), and the relationship between Daniel and Ben collapsed, leading to the hiatus.
>>130269293IMO it's actually one of their best albums. But it's also completely different from their post-grunge work, and it's closer to something like Coldplay. I honestly don't know how their longtime fans responded to it, but I thought it was a great album.desu I wonder how much of it comes down to Daniel Johns' personal issues.Years after that he honestly became stranger and stranger. I think he's an incredibly talented songwriter, but he'd be difficult to deal with because he's so far from reality.>>130271543>Silverchair really had no business achieving international successThis is nonsense. They got big because they were teens who looked like Kurt Cobain and who girls thought were cute. There was no way that wasn't going to be massive. But what's more, they turned out to actually be incredibly talented songwriters, and they were one of the best post-grunge bands. The idea they should've been a local band is ridiculous.
>>130275254I guess Daniel's celebrity status didn't help.
