Who's Norm?
>>
>>130271974
some radio stations didn't want to play this as they found it offensive or something
>>
Clooney's later career jazz albums are honestly better than her 50s-60s records, she sounds older and not as punchy but is a smarter, more tasteful singer by that point.

>>130271999
i dunno, some guy i guess

>Clooney and her sister Betty began singing on a Cincinnati radio show when they were teenagers to earn money as their alcoholic father was unemployed and they were being threatened with eviction for non-payment of the rent. This led to them being discovered by the Tony Pastor Orchestra.[3]
they don't make them like that anymore lol. if it was now then she'd have to be the niece of a Disney or Goldman-Sachs executive to even have a chance.

She did a real nice album on Concord Jazz label with saxophonist Scott Hamilton (also on the label)
All well-known standards associated with friend Bing Crosby.

Blue Rose w/ Duke Ellington was Clooney's first proper LP, in 1956. That was done over the objections of Mitch Miller who was like noooooo pop singers cannot do LPs that's only for classical and musical/movie music. She did have to overdub parts due to being pregnant though.
>>
>>130272143
all i'll say is America's first big pop stars were the Boswell Sisters and they didn't exactly grow up poor
>>
>>130272183
she was pregnant quite often during those years
>>
>>130272292
that's what oldschool Catholics did
>>
>>130272059
I could get the reasons for hating all that Mitch Miller pop shit, Clooney didn't want to record those songs either.
>>
>>130272156
All of her Concord albums are well-put together with good recording quality/musicians/song selections.
>>
>>130272328
Didn't Tony Bennett tell him to fuck off and wouldn't let him have any involvement in producing his records?
>>
>>130272453
I think so, in exchange CBS punished him by refusing to promote his albums.

As opposed to the cheap crap her illustrious contemporary and husband were putting out.

Second worst version of "Teach Me Tonight" ever.

fucking douchebags, i swear

Why are you guys obsessed with this stuff? Genuinely curious
>>

I'm not taking her Ellington collab album over Rosie's, no thanks.

We know what that was. This is a level of horror few even imagined possible.

One may call this the jazz equivalent of Yungblud meets Ozzy. That isn't meant as a compliment either.

Teresa had four of 'em. Just Catholic things.
>>

Answer the question
>>
>>130272543
Ah, her "look at me I'm a real singer, see?" phase.
>>
>>130272543
she claimed something like "ah, my real masterworks were the jazz albums i did, not any of those 50s pop hits that stuff was dum anyway." the reason that sounds like bullshit is because we know Clooney was very vocal about hating that Mitch Miller shit and had to fight to be able to record good material. well, it's conceivable that Teresa didn't want to record "Choo 'N Gum" but she certainly made no attempt in her prime anyway to record anything like Blue Rose and it's very more likely that she did those jazz albums as a hobby/LARP after the age of 40 when she was obviously too old for the kind of material she did in her 20s.
>>
>>130272702
Krall also did that with Tony Bennett. Now that's how to be a parasite 101.
>>
>>130272613
Why do you get so defensive when people ask you why you’re obsessed with 50s housewife singers?
>>
>>130272806
>because we know Clooney was very vocal about hating that Mitch Miller shit and had to fight to be able to record good material
You earn your jazz stripes when you literally go insane and spend several years institutionalized as she did.
>>
>>130272543
Bob Thiele was mini-me Mitch Miller. Coral's roster in the 50s was nothing short of atrocious and unlike CBS none of them were like Clooney or Bennett ie. talents merely being held back by label management. just a lot of empty schlock singers who did nothing of importance after their chart hits faded.
>>
>>130272328
>I could get the reasons for hating all that Mitch Miller pop shit, Clooney didn't want to record those songs either.

Sinatra and Dinah Shore told him to eat shit, but they were older established stars who had earned their stripes. Rosemary of course was just starting out in the early 50s and had no leverage yet. Even Perry Como hated a lot of his earlier records from the 40s, before he really had any creative control or freedom to choose material.
