Why do people like David BowieI don't get it
He was a talented hack
Add it to the long list of things you don’t get and move on
Tonight [EMI America, 1984]What makes Bowie a worthy entertainer is his pretensions, his masks, the way he simulates meaning. He has no special gift for convincing emotions or good tunes--when he works at being "merely" functional he's merely dull, or worse. With Nile Rodgers gone, the dance potential of the second album of his professional phase is negligible, and he's favoring the tired usages that have been the downfall of an entire generation of English twits. In this setting, not even Leiber-Stoller's long-neglected "I Keep Forgetting" makes much of an impression. C
Why do people like ye? I don't fucking know, dude, at least Bowie was talented.
because he made ziggy stardust, heroes, station to station (list goes on) and he a good dude
>>130272073this album sucks but "Loving the Alien" is honestly kino
>>130271979Because his music sounds good.
>>130271979his music was really good
I had a period where i was obsessed with him, i listened to every one of his albums, it all culminated in me reaching his final album, black star and him dyingPeople like to say he was some sort of phony, but i really like his music, even the later bowie eras, like outside , heathen, earthling.I think bowie was really good at capturing the zeitgeist of whatever time period he was in, he was a chamelon who could do any genre
Mediocre music carried by costume gimmicks
1 Nostalgia for Ziggy Stardust because it was one of the only records we had as a kid2 Nostalgia 2.0 for outside because I was obsessed with Lost Highway as a teen3 Station to Station is genuinely great prog
>>130272884Did he just genre hop and use people though? As he did with Trent reznor never to see him again after his little alternative phase. Real goths, alt people, etc are that way till they pass, like rob smith of the cure. Bowie has his hair all blonde and all styled by the 2000s.
he was one of the great artfags of rock n roll
>>130272985but enough about angine de poitre
>>130271979>isnt an alligator
>>130272284but it doesnt sound good
>>130273932filtered
>>130273393>etc are that way till they passThat's really boring, though. Being able to reinvent yourself, to innovate and keep with the times, is actually much harder to pull off.
He was a talented singer songwriter with a great backing band and strong messaging
He has one of the best discographies in rock history. Not only because of the almost constant good and great quality, but also due to him embracing so many styles and genres, that you'll at least fall in love with a couple of his albums.
>>130274835I love Bowie but strong messaging? When?
>>130275409I mean the storytelling and emotional messaging
>>130275613That makes sense I thought you meant political/ social commentary messaging, that's something he kinda lacks
>>130277125black tie white noise
>>130277197No, I like that album/song a lot but you have to admit that the track is a disaster lol. The porno sounding music does not match the LA riots at all, and he really missed the mark trying to do a parody of racial harmony songs (black and white, we are the world, etc...). He was trying to sound cooler than those artists and just made an ass out of himself. The message gets lost in the slick production
>>130271979Heathen, scary monsters and hunky dory are really good albums. You can usually find 2 good songs off any album he's made, amidst all the crap
>>130271979BECAUSE HE'S AFRAID OF AMERICANS!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LT3cERVRoQo
>>130272073/thread
>>130274806Is it reinventing though or just hopping from genre to genre, trend to trend, style to style giving the illusion of reinventing. Just as the likes of Yungblud and MGK do today.
>>130271979He's a really good entry level artist, you know? You can listen to Bowie and figure out what you like before going on to explore other, greener pastures.Somenof his stuff is really good, but some is only good if you haven't listened to much. He's interesting like that.
>>130271979>>130272073Bowie said it himself. He's not a musician but an actor. You like Bowie cause you like his performance as an actor.
>>130272284Does it really? Jesus
>>130283475t. Scarufi droneTell me, what instruments can you play Pietro? Stupid pasta wog.
