Why do people hate the Eagles? I think they’re pretty great. Don’t just say the big Lebowski I love that movie but the eagles have a lot of great songs

If you were a Gen X-er, or if you're a millennial who had to listen to classic rock radio, you heard Heartache Tonight a thousand times which is enough to make anyone hate a band as well as life itself

Everyone needs a pariah. Eagles hate is a standin for hatred of boomer rock that didn't clear the bar of *born in le wrong generation* and there's waaaaay sappier stuff out there than the Eagles, but that stuff's also way less visible. See also: "We Built this City" as the pinnacle of horrible 80s synthstop and "Nickelback is the worst band ever" as a shorthand for all post-grunge buttrock
