>We used to have distinctive and thriving local music scenes in nearly all mid-sized cities and college towns>Seattle, Athens, San Diego, Olympia, Providence, Louisville, Portland, Cambridge, Champaign–Urbana>Now everyone leaves to New York and Los Angeles where they homogenize their sound
This, but with every aspect of life
>>130278131Get over it chud Poptimism won
>>130278131Git gud and you will be able to sound however you wish
>>130278131why Los Angeles instead of San Francisco though? SF always had the best music
>>130278641because if you wanna be a successful musician you gotta be an influencer now
i was watching some youtube video about medieval history, the guy in the video said that mono culture was basically an anomaly the only existed with the rise of television, before television mono culture didnt exist, everyone was in their own little small town with their own micro culture, and now with the rise of the internet thats sort of returned to normal
>>130278673>and now with the rise of the internet thats sort of returned to normalI disagree a lot. 95% of people are using the same mega-websites. Youth culture nationally is homogenous and stagnant. High school alt culture from Alaska to Florida is Weezer and Roblox
>>130278131> Chicago claims that claiming to enjoy and talk about tavern cut pizza constitutes a music scene >> Detroit claims that just having basic utility services is probably more than enough to constitute a music scene >
Internet works that way: it creates lots of communities but they are super niche and less and less connected to the "monoculture".
>>130278131.... Chapel Hill. Bloomington.Knoxville had a nice scene, but I wouldn't call it distinct and the only band with a following outside of town was Superdrag. I think most places were like that.
>>130281540I was in Chapel Hill this Sunday. Hung out with a goth girl. Saw a couple trannies I know. Had a good time.
>>130278163it's not about being insecure and wanting to 'win'it's about different niches existing and having their own place, rather than it being all the same and safe.
Music is dead. It has no cultural cache and only exists as background noise for advertisements and shopping.
