I always find it interesting when a musician is given legendary status. The amount of outward praise and appreciation these two receive does not correlate with their musical career success. Why is that? I view the same phenomenon with underground artists. So much public support for underground artists at times from the most famous and successful artists yet they remain underground and not very successful in their personal career. Strange.
>>130286701Artistry should matter more than mainstream success. Mainstream artists have the benefit of being propped up by the couple of major labels that have the money and resources to reach the maximum amount of listeners and generally speaking mainstream artists are not exactly boosted to the mainstream due to their artistic merits but because they are the most marketable and potentially will sell more. Thats why you should get into underground artists because that's where you will find that real shit.
Underground artists will get a cosign from a top musician and their newest album will only sell like 200 units haha but the people will sing their praises regardless. That must be so freeing.
indeed true words
>>130286701these two are not comparable at all btw
At least Nip made some hard songs and Victory Lap is an overall good street rap albumMac's entire discography belongs in the trash.
>>130288939fantano ass take
>>130286701Mainstream rap isnt an organic thing. The 'big guys' are puppets, 'public support' is posting on social media, that's not reality anyways
I genuinely thought mac milar was a HUGE artist when he was alive due to how much people praised him anytime he did anything. Never got that from nip until after he died the praise was next level and rubbed me the wrong way.
>>130289910then you go and listen to the only Nipsey Hussle album there is and it's just generic early 2010s trap
i give props to all underground artists who manage to become mainstream
>>130292308I give props to every bully who called you a faggot when you were young
