Yeah. Their early stuff isn't great. The Greatest Generation is the turning point though and they've become one of the most interesting bands in the genre. Better with each album by leaps and bounds.

early stuff is fine for what it is. and suburbia was the turning point imo not greatest generation, but GG is their best album. no closer to heaven was like 6/10 and the ones after that were awful

Really? I thought they've only gotten stronger. I like that they've gotten heavier and embraced the post-hardcore stuff instead of sticking with the pop punk junk. Soupy has become a tremendous writer. It's like night and day seeing the guy go from LE MORGAN SPURLOCK to writing thoughtful, poignant and heartbreaking stuff. To each their own thoughts. Sister Cities and Hum are tied for my favorites.

yeah it's just my opinion obviously but i can't stand the direction they've went
>get stoked on it
immature but catchy
>upsides
slightly maturing but still kinda silly. also catchy
>suburbia
first "serious" album, but also still has some of the pop punky stuff from the first 2
>GG
best album, perfect start to finish
then the problem for me is it kept getting more and more "serious" but in an unappealing way, dunno how to explain it. maybe my real problem with them is that my core memories are those first 4 albums in college so stuff that doesn't sound similar i dislike
i also disliked soupys side album, aaron west or whatever it was called

I got into them late. I heard Screen Door and immediately loved it. I couldn't quite latch onto their earlier stuff but loved No Closer and Sister Cities floored me. These all came out when I was having a shitty time in my life so maybe I just have a fondness for it. I'm excited for their new one when it does come out. I like Aaron West too but it's definitely a bummer. I like lyric driven things so it scratches that itch.

fair enough, sounds like how i view the first half of their catalog is how you view the second half basically
to each their own. but i will die on the hill that GG is objectively their best album

It's a damn good one. I hope I get to see them live one day. It's nice having a band with no controversy around them. They all fuck off until it's new album/tour time. The Jimmy Eat World method is the best method

actually one of my biggest regrets, i live in dc and they refuse to come here for some reason, nearest option is baltimore and when i had the time to actually go see them (in college) i didn't pull the trigger and i missed my chance
i dont think i'd want to see them now because i don't want to listen to the new stuff, but if they did an oldies show or some shit like that i'd do it

I live in the middle of fucking nowhere so I have no chance but album anniversary tours are in vogue. I'm sure you'll get to see them do GG in full. The videos I've seen make it look like a good time.
