Black Sabbath's influence on metal is incredibly overstated. You can trace as many, if not more, metal tropes back to bands like Led Zeppelin or Rainbow. No, Black Sabbath did not "create metal". In many ways they were playing their own thing, separate from the development of metal.
t: butthurt Dio fan from the other threadpathetic
>>130289499An angry person wrote those words
>>130289522>>130289595It's true though
>>130289499wrong, black sabbath created metal just like the ramones created punk and black people created all forms of music. lolsabbath doesnt even sound like heavy metal to me in the 70s
You hear Iommi style riffs throughout all of metal more than you hear Page or Blackmore
>>130289673You don't really hear any of them that often desu. Except in like stoner/doom metal. I'd say Blackmore had much more influence on lead guitar playing and Dio had a lot of influence on metal vocals. And both Rainbow and Zeppelin had more influence on metal drumming than Bill Ward. Immigrant Song pretty much created the gallop.
>>130289712Oh and also Zeppelin was playing chugging riffs before Sabbath even released an album. https://youtu.be/2atkj_KWLl0
>>130289499Black Sabbath created metal.
>>130289754Great response anon. You really engaged with the points I made.
>>130289499Deep Purple was more important for metal than Black Sabbath ever was.
>>130289782Blackmore just does not get enough credit
>>130289761Black Sabbath created metal.
>>130289499Trvke
>>130289499>>130289499As a huge Black Sabbath fan, I agree, simply because I love Sabbath and hate other bands considered metal. The difference between between fucking Joy Division and early Black Sabbath is thinner than the difference between Black Sabbath and Megadeth (for example). Truth be told, defining an artist's music genre isn't that simplistic.
>>130289992>The difference between between fucking Joy Division and early Black Sabbath is thinnerlmao
>>130290023Day of the Lords is practically a Sabbath song
>>130289992Do you like Dio Sabbath? Those albums are more "metal" IMO.
>>130290122"New Dawn Fades" is straight up plagiarism. Same riff from War Pigs. Also, off-topic, but Ian was a better lyricist than Geezer. It'd fun to see Ian writing lyrics for Sabbath.
>>130290122Don't think so>>130290495Paranoid was launched in 1970, so
>>130290545What Sabbath song is anything like Holy Wars or Rust In Peace... Polaris lol
>>130290555I mean I get what you're trying to say. Yeah Sabbath sounds still kinda more hard rock than heavy metal
>>130290644>more hard rock than heavy metallmao if songs like symptom of the universe, children of the grave, into the void, black sabbath, electric funeral, under the sun etc. sound like hard rock then genres are completely meaninglessthis entire thread is retarded with OP trying to be a unique snowflake faggot mistakenly thinking his wrong opinions make him more interesting
>>130290717I'm OP. I don't disagree that Sabbath was metal. I just think other bands had just as much influence on the development of metal as Sabbath.
>>130289673That's because you listen to riffless metal.
