windowseat pile edition
not bad, OP
>>130290254Latest thrifting finds. I don't normally include the classical CDs when I post these but I'll include "Ian Tracey - Organ Recital" because it's the kind of classical I think anybody could enjoy. It's a recording of the Liverpool Cathedral organ which is the largest in the UK and it sounds great on a big sound system. The Jamiroquois is mixed kind of muddy compared to the first one, I don't like it as much. That Moving Shadow mix CD is the first drum 'n bass I've seen in charity shops. Not one of their best mixes but not bad. The Bulgarian CD is Pocи Киpилoвa – Живeй Зa Mигa which I picked up because I thought it might be weird communist music, but it turns out it was released 1993 and they switched to democracy in 1989. Average 80sish pop, with some country included too, and some tracks in English. Feels like a compilation album despite not being one. According to the Bulgarian Wikipedia it was the first ever made in Bulgaria CD. My favorite of this batch is probably the Tasmin Archer (I'd already heard Sleeping Satellite but the rest was new to me).
>>130290254As an oldfag, I find a collection like this interesting. I don't think I could imagine anyone from my generation having Spiritualized/Talk Talk/Malkmus/Joy Division next to Bush/Stabbing Westward/Candlebox.
Over the last month or so
if you have a thrift store or record store with a dollar bin, go get the Paula Abdul - Forever Your Girl copy that's thereit's a great album, and it sold millions so it's all over the place. low hanging fruit
Mail day
gonna fire up the belt drive transport tonight
>>130292765>belt drive CD playerWhy? Data has to buffered for the CIRC and the rotation has to be servo controlled for the CLV, so there's no way this can make a difference to the sound.
>>130293151I need to swap new tubes in my cd player, so using the belt drive transport with spectral audio sdr-2000 dac instead, mostly why
>>130290254most recent pickups are Phil Hartman - Flat TV, Treepeople - Actual Re-Enactment, Spinal Tap soundtrack, Beth Orton - Central Reservation, Platoon soundtrack, and The Producers soundtrack for $2 eachalso that's my first time seeing a Beach House - Depression Cherry CD that isn't the red felt book
Two boxes from Japan arrived with 12 CDs yesterday. I was happy like usual. Almost always the discs are perfect specimens because the Japanese take care of their shit but this is the first time I encountered one that was too badly scratched to rip using my normal EAC setup. I got this desktop PC I got from work for free up and running. Hopefully it will manage to get a good read off that disc otherwise I'm going to need to go to more desperate measures.
>>130293278>tubes in my cd player>with spectral audio sdr-2000 dacWhat are the tubes accomplishing if you're using an external DAC?
>>130290254gay
>>130293458Figured I might as well show off what I got too. There's now a mess of bubble wrap and plastic all across the bed and the desktop PC is awkwardly set up next to the bed. My wife isn't too happy about any of this but the CDs must get ripped!
>>130290936>first drum 'n bass I've seen in charity shopsI was gonna say. I thought from the catalog numbers these were US pressings but you would be insanely lucky to find a Moving Shadow release there unless perhaps it was from Sm:)e Communications. What I'd like to know is how Shut Up and Dance shows up in the Japanese equivalent of one. I won't bother asking how those deep deep scratches got onto the disc.
>>130293489ah, I’m not using the spectral dac with the tubed audio aero cd player, two different setups. but still could run the spectral dac through the tubes as they are in the output stage of the audio aero cdp which also has a linestage preamp, the tubes color the sound just so pleasantly. But I have several tubed headphone amps for that. Depends on mood innit.
Not looking good for this Shut Up and Dance CD. The rip can be repaired with CUETools and that's good enough for my own purposes. I guess it's a good candidate for experimenting further. Reddit says to use car wax.
>>130293517But enough about your reflection
>>130290254get vinyl retards. cds are obsolete
>>130295639Okay but you need to buy me the turntable and the preamp and also the big house to store all my records in. I'd still buy CDs but I'd also be buying vinyl.
>>130295639>cds are obsolete
16 bit 44.1 khz pcm audio is perfection
>>130295639This gay, retarded, fat, dumbass nigga has a meltdown at the mere mention of CDs. KWAB.
>>130290254I primarily purchase vinyl atm but I do still occasionally pick up some CDshere are some of my most recent ones
>>130298462I'll definitely end up downloading some of these
>>130299676now that's a based Genocide Organ collection holy shit
>>130292199>go get the Paula Abdul - Forever Your GirlAlready got one, and I didn't pay a whole dollar for it, it was 3 for £1 (3 for $1.34). It's rarer in the UK than the US, I never saw any other copy of it. Good album if you like 80s which you probably do if you collect CDs.
Been listening to more early pressings since I got a NOS R2R DAC. If you can deal with/avoid preemphasis they just sound right. Soundstage is pretty closed in, though.>>130293278OJC pressings sure are nice.>>130293458I haven't had any that are unreadable, but I've had a few from chainsmokers that were absolutely filthy. Dish soap to the rescue.>>130293602Someone's been shopping at Mapleshade.I still have a Njoe Tjoeb 4000 that I spent years torturing with mods. The transport was pretty tired the last time I dusted it off and the VFD is exiting the chat. I get my fix with tube preamps now.
What’s anon listening to?
>>130302008Actually just some butcher block cutting boards, and found those footers at some good price bulk from random online supply shop, needed a good footer option for my diy Bottlehead tube headphone amps
>>130302803Based audiophile
>>130302803>>130299676Peak, need more noise cds
