https://voca.ro/173ZLB0hQBVCSnippet of a song I'm planning on releasing soon. >>130299886Nice, I like it. You don't really hear this sort of specific 80s upbeat vibe much anymore, not without a little irony at least. Really good production too.
>>130300140>https://voca.ro/173ZLB0hQBVCThis is fucking fire dude. Love that synth sound the vocals are great too. Thanks for the kind words on the production. I was going for of a more qotsa vibe than 80s but I'll take the compliment lol. Most of my stuff is usually softer so mixing this one down was a bit of a learning process.
im white so at the very least this is gay. would be cool to have some panda bear style vocals over it. https://vocaroo.com/18fWayE7Hl58
>>130302763don't let the identity politicians mislead you, this would be just as gay no matter what ethnicity you were
>>130302822yeah I knew it was risky when I was making it lol. If it means anything I only spent like a day or two on it. some parts of it i am happy with though
fun bit of trancehttps://vocaroo.com/1b4fr8fajoCB>>130302763i like it, im not going to the beach or outside
I'm still in the fucking about phase with this, so nothing's super tight. I think I'll stick with this approach, though. Thoughts?https://vocaroo.com/18qpeaywLkAc
>>130303474The sound and composition is very obnoxious.
Working on remaking the EP of a shitty metalcore/post hardcore kind of band I was in a few years ago. Got one song done so far. I re-tracked all of the guitars, bass, reworked the drum midi, mixed and mastered from scratch, changed some stuff, etc... I kept the original vocals because I can't sing or scream, but they aren't very good IMO. I think this version sounds a lot better, but I need another set of ears. I get the feeling it might be a bit too muddy in the low end. Also mixed it with headphones so it might sound like shit through speakers. Idk.https://vocaroo.com/16N4Bo6gSeQZoriginal track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag6liA8cIhU
>>130305609Why? What about it is obnoxious?
>>130307605I'm not the guy who wrote that post, but personally I'd say the little chromatic lines going up and down between the vocal melody are a bit too distracting and could be seen as obnoxious. Putting it much much futher back in the mix could help, or I'd suggest coming up with a completely different little riff and replacing that part. This would be my suggestion, basically the same idea but change the first two notes to A so it doesn't draw as much attention.https://vocaroo.com/1j8EA0pdDpnQAny time there is chromatic movement in a song, it really draws the attention of the listener so it should be used carefully. In this case, it draws the attention so much that I lose track of what the melody/rap is supposed to be. Also how you have the piano hitting every 8th note the A4, since the A4 is in the range of the vocals, just moving it down an octave or two would keep it from competing too much with the vocals. I would also experiment with different rhythmic patterns for that part (and a different vst or some sort of effect to make it fit the more crunchy vibes of the rest of the song)I'd say the note about octaves might also apply to the chromatic riff, I would see how it sounds moved up or down an octave, or maybe even both higher and lower at the same time, while keeping the A4 range clear?? But yeah all of my advice boils down to keeping the track interesting without distracting from the vocals too much. Melody is king, and every production/arrangement choice you make you need to ask "does this make the melody sound even better?" and if the answer is no, then try something new until it does.
https://voca.ro/1jfmsiSopXFN here is a song im working on, tell me if its crap >>130299886>https://vocaroo.com/1534RfjBmk7Lnot bad, this is pretty good
>>130307911>Chromatic notesThey're in the original song as well, with a change in the ascending variant that I might involve, too. Having it A / B with the vocals gives them more space. I don't think moving them down in the mix would make sense, either. A lot of this might be down to our ears because I am used to and enjoy extreme metal, so aggressive chromatic guitars that take up space aren't something that distracts me from the rest of a song.>8th note PianoI agree with you, that's already on my to-do list to either move it up or down and / or change or distort the sound to make it fit a little better. It does compete with the vocals.>moving chromatic riff up or downI tried moving it up an octave, and it makes the guitars a little too thin. This might just be me, but it also turns the riff boomer-y. Moving it down an octave will probably just kill it altogether, considering that it'd go past even a 9 string guitar's low end range. Maybe I'll try it just for the fuck of it.Appreciate the feedback, Anon, and that you went so far as to offer an alternative melody.
>>130309004Oh, I was under the impression that it was an original song and that you used some sort of AI/software to create the vocal performance. I'm listening to the original now, the chromatic bits are less distracting there because of the mixing. In your version, the instrumental is at the front, and the vocals sound like they're muffled in the back of the room, what you need is the opposite. (I understand it's still a WIP)I still think the original should have rewritten that riff though LOL, by my standards it's a really sloppy arrangement and they only get away with it because the vocals are SO aggressively prominent in the mix.For what it's worth, I think your idea for the metal remix is cooler than the original. Also I listen to/write music that has a lot of melodies at the same time so I think I'm more sensitive to when something is slightly clashing/distracting than the average person.
>>130309306>AIFuck no, Lol. I use isolated vocal tracks to build the song around them for a cover, use someone for a vocalist or try to sing myself. >Less distracting chromaticism due to the mixFair point. I'll give it a shot to see what it sounds like with the guitars turned down a little later, even though I think it might be due to my ears just not being bothered by it. The vocals could also sound muffled because they always end up fucky when being isolated from a song. Check for yourself, if you wanna. Here it is without the vocals: https://vocaroo.com/1l8tD0Te0gJHHere's the isolated vocals I yoinked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-QvhALMmPo>Rewriting riff in the originalI think it works. There's something about stupid, sexual lyrics and attitude paired with chromaticism that just adds to the trashiness imho. I've done some hyper horny edm shitposts like that before. Thanks, man. Glad you think it's cooler than the original. I guess whether or not it's clashing could heavily be down to taste. I've done a lot of work for different genres and projects, but metal's what I'm drawn to, and it has a habit of turning you into a pseudo-jazz guy because you start to enjoy stuff that others would see as abrasive, dissonant, wrong, etc.
