was he really that great?

yeah

As a musician, nah but he was a likeable man and good entertainer. The rest of Black Sabbath deserve the credit as pioneers, Ozzy was just a normie Beatles fan that kept finding himself at the right place at the right time. He gets the credit for all of the musical projects that he had the least input in and had a reputation that was completely made up by fans, people were always shocked to meet him and be confused that he is just a mild mannered Brit.

It was impressive that he was able to perform consistently at such an old age

This is my favorite Ozzy era song and it's not even him singing

How so? If you watch any interview with him it's obvious that he was a very easy going guy

I Like him

yes but people didn't have internet for most of his career so they only saw the headlines that he was THE LORD OF DARKNESS, omg he ate a bat's head on stage, he is an insane madman that is on a permanent drug binge and is always doing wacky antics.

Now you can see that even during his glory days, he was a bit embarrassed by all of that and seemed sincere in not wanting to be a bad role model, wanted to get off drugs. He hated the associations with satanism. He never considered himself a metal or hard rock musician, he was just a beatleshead. etc.

He definitely didn't want to be a bad role model but I doubt he ever truly wanted to get sober. Dude lived for tripping.
>>
Yes. He had a really distinct vocal style. A lot of Geezer rock and hippieslop from the late 60s/early 70s had that gay vocals, trying to sound black or something. Ozzy did something totally different. Black Sabbath are one of the only boomer rock bands that has actually aged well.

He is.

When all is said and done, he had a pretty unique sounding voice that fit the kind of dark subject matter that he explored throughout his career. If you like metal or not, you have to admit nobody sounds like Ozzy.
>>
>>130306154
he wrote some of the greatest metal songs
>>
Yeah
>>
>>130306154
Yeah
>>
>>130306756
He wrote like one and a half song his entire career.

I wish he wrote more, The Writ is great.
>>
>>130306154
Nah... JK yeah of course.
>>
>>130306213
I think it's more fair to say that, while he wasn't a particularly great singer, he had an exceptional eye and ear for talent. He surrounded himself with trailblazers and ridiculously talented people.

>I tried out that Buckethead guy. I met with him and asked him to work with me, but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket. So I came back a bit later, and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing! I said, 'Look, just be yourself.' He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says, 'No one calls me Brian except my mother.' So I said, 'Pretend I'm your mum, then!' I haven't even got out of the room and I'm already playing fucking mind games with the guy. What happens if one day he's gone and there's a note saying, 'I've been beamed up'? Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. He plays like a motherfucker.

he cheated on sheryl

I’m inclined to say yes, absolutely. As a devoted cat owner it breaks my heart that he killed over ten of his own cats with a shotgun, which is a heinous thing to do. But context is important, the music is legendary, and I sense he really tried to cleanse his demons. Good man.

>>130306154
I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Also they probably deserved it.

Are you a fucking facebook boomer that believes everything they read online? Try to find a source for that rumor, go ahead. You find any because it's complete bullshit.
