Was new wave a psyop to ruin music?
hiphop was.
>>130310240No. There's obviously varying quality, but the best new wave (XTC, Elvis Costello, The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Talking Heads, JD/NO, etc) saved music from the doldrums that was the prog/AOR era.
>>130310757The best prog is better than the best new wave however.
>>130310240Was listening to Parallel Lines just yesterday, what a perfect pop album. That being said, I have no idea how or why was Culture Club and Boy George allowed to thrive.
>>130310240Most of these bands and albums are great though?
>>130310757Prog and AOR shouldn't even be in the same category
>>130311434I agree in principle, but it did objectively blend together. A lot of the AOR that dominated the charts at the time was by the ex-prog guys.
>>130310757This. New wave literally saved us from the post-hippie rock stranglehold
>>130310240>Was new wave a psyop to improve music?corrected. punk blew the doors open and now earning a living making music was available to anyone. as such, you got fresh, diverse approaches to writing great pop music from people who would have been gatekept before.
>>130310240New Wave was about taking white pop music away from the New York scene and disturbing evenly to California and England before the industry realized they could make money with hip hop.New York was still attached to disco at the hip and was taking the industry down with them
>>130311655>punk blew the doors open
>>130311590I mean, I guess with Asia, but they're still inferior to the prog bands their members originated from.
>>130311655>hey these guys used synths instead of distorted guitars but played the same notes thats SOO cooool
>new wave>is oldzoomers did this
>>130310991Yeah but prog was cooked by the time new wave came out
>>130311672thanks ChatGPT
>>130310240you're thinking of hiphop
>>130310240now THIS is bait!>>130310543hiphop or rap?
>>130310240absolutelynew wave ruined the fucking 80s>>130310543hiphop and new wave>>130310757I don't consider elvis costello new wave, because i actually like elvis costello
>>130310240Fucking 80s, man, best shit ever. Bet your ass, man.Guns N' Roses fucking rules. Crüe. Def Lep.Then that Cobain pussy had to come around and ruin it all. Like there's something wrong with wanting to have a good time.I'll tell you something. I hated the fucking 90s.90s fucking sucked.
>>130319082the wrestler movie
>>130311332>>130311655OP is just a chinless incel contrarian ragebaiting.
>>130310240After finding out that abstract expressionism was confirmed cold war propaganda to reject soviet socialist realism I'd honestly believe anything. Doubt it thoughNew wave has some legendary albums though so whatever, even if it were it wouldn't take away from it's value in retrospect
>>130310240FUCK YOU PUSSY!!! NEW WAVE AND ALL IT'S BRANCHES ARE THE GREATEST MUSIC KNOWN TO MAN.>>130319067ELVIS COSTELLO WAS LITERALLY ONE OF THE EARLIEST NEW WAVE ACTS YOU GOOFY GOOBER>>130311434>Prog and AOR shouldn't even be in the same categoryRETARD, AOR WAS THE EVOLUTION OF PROG ROCK. ASIA, YES, GENESIS, ALAN PARSONS PROJECT ARE THE MOST WELL KNOWN EXAMPLES BUT THERE'S TONS OF BANDS WHO WENT THAT ROUTE.
>>130319067it's kinda weird to like EC but not at the very least XTC and The Clash
>>130319067>I don't consider elvis costello new wave, because i actually like elvis costelloWhat a gay way of thinking
>>130319596>>130319969>>130320323well if he is new wave, then new wave ended with him. He blows everyone out of the water https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ssd3U_zicAI
>>130310240Nah, Rock in the 60's and 70's was a different breed. Rock in the 80's basically turned to tranny shit. Unironically the best Genre's from the 80's was Metal, not tranny "hair metal" but real Metal, and new waveThough there are some good rock bands from the 80's by that time the genre was getting kinda boring and these other genre's were bright spots in that generation of music. If anything was a psyop it was tranny rock trying to demasculinize the genre. New Wave was just synth pop. who cares if it was soft, that's apart of that genre anyways. Trust me, you might disagree, but upon further contemplation you will realize the same thing i am telling you to be true.
>>130320755>New Wave was just synth popNo it wasn't,PURE New Wave barely had any synths, see:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y71iDvCYXAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPi4tL6r5UEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92wCPfqyVbgSynthpop was mostly synths of course:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nf04YLfnRohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPudE8nDog0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6FBfAQ-NDEAnd in the middle ground there was New Wave-Synthpop:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdqoNKCCt7Ahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djV11Xbc914https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsHiG-43Fzg
>>130320755Synth Pop is just a subgenre of new wave
>>130310240Every album in that image is at least a 7 out of 10, if not higher desu
>>130321940Even Culture Club?
>>130310240blondies first is their best though
>>130321963I'll give you that as the one exception, as I haven't really listened to it/them
>>130321963Screw you buddy, early Culture Club was peak.
>>130310240Kind of. New Wave was a marketing term by Seymor Stein, who ran Sire Records and released a lot of those records. To go even further, payola was a big thing for the record companies at the time. Part of the reason Burning Down The House by Talking Heads got so much attention was because Sire would pay radio stations to play the song. David Byrne had a hard time with that for a while and felt like a sellout (which is kind of wild)I love most New Wave tho regardless.
>>130322149>(which is kind of wild)it really isnt, byrne was a classic avantgardist mentally
>>130322149DID YOU KNOW THAT STYX USED TO BRIBE DJs WITH COCAINE TO PLAY THEIR RECORDS?
>>130320755>If anything was a psyop it was tranny rock trying to demasculinize the genre>trying to retroactively apply modern culture wars shit to 40 years agoFuck off.
>>130322410>transsexualism was invented in the 2010s
>>130320755What are even supposed to be examples of 80's "tranny rock"? Motley Crue?
>>130323302Twisted Sister is ironic tranny rock
>>130319596Stop yelling pls!
>>130324034I've always read those guys as extremely straight while a lot of new wave(Culture Club, Human League, Wham!, Tears for Fears, Soft Cell) was extremely gay.
>>130324204>Human League>Tears for Fearsthey weren't gay
>>130325366The music was. They used to get called Tears for Queers.
>>130325471>They used to get called Tears for Queers.By guys who loved bands that looked like this
>>130310240These were all slapping songs on the GTA radio
>>130326040Yet they were playing extremely heterosexual music for extreme heterosexuals. Gays were listening to Depeche Mode.
>>130310240The bait is getting worse holy fuck
>>130326463keep telling yourself that, my flaming friend
>>130310240I love new wave. It's like 60 minutes on acid
>>130326490You are completely out of your mind if you think gay men were giving any kind of attention to the likes of Manowar and Twisted Sister instead Madonna, Eurythmics, Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys. Those bands were for heterosexual teenage boys.
Fuck you, I like new wave
>>130327278This
>>130310543Found the Chud who's sexually threatened by black men
>>130327361As opposed to you, who is sexually excited by black men. What a cock smoker you are.
>>130310240All these albums are fine, thank God these interesting bands came along and saved the dying pop and rock genres. >>130310543This.>spoken word about murdering, fornicating, abusing drugs forced upon the masses for 30+ yearsControlled demolition of the human mind which is something Devo would never do.
>>130327259Straight people don't listen to bands that look gayer than The Village People. Imagine going back to the 80s and thinking it's straighter for a male to have a poster of this on your wall>>130326040than Madonna, Annie Lennox or something like Black Celebration.
>>130310543>>130327761hip hop is a more enjoyable psyop than new wave
>>130310543>>130319067>new wave ruined the fucking 80sinterestingly, producers connected with new wave/post-punk is who initially shilled hiphop
>>130327894Heterosexual are strange just like that.
>>130326463>Gays were listening to Depeche ModeToo gloomy for gays.Try more Erasure, Bronski Beat, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Sabrina, Baltimora.
>>130321737whatever>>130321776yep thanks for confirming what i said>>130322410Here's your giga chad 80's rock, kiddo. >>130323302here take your pick. all im saying is you make fun of people for enjoying soft and poppy new wave. but i think you are more gay anyways.
>>130331084Your guesses are better than the other anon's, but Depeche did make a lot of great clubbing music, gloomy or not>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_q806iYoZQ>>130331361Truly a puzzling moment in the history of heterosexuality.
>>130326040nobody ever listened to manowar
>>130322395do you find this remarkable? Radio stations used to control the music distribution channels pre-internet/MTV.Think of how ruthless Facebook, Google, Amazon are now and how much people, whether they like it or not, have to suck up to them.
