Anon, time for your daily listen of Pet Sounds. And just in time for the 60th anniversary!
>>130313667I just wasn't made for these times
>>130313667It sucks
Why does Beach Boys Today! never get the same acclaim as Pet Sounds? It's arguably just as good but with more traditional rock instruments than all the baroque pop stuff
>>130313860Side A was too happy
>>130313860It's not quite as good is why
>>130313686sometimes I feel very sad
>>130313917¿Cuando seré? Un día seré
>>130313860I am a big fan of Today, but the reason why it doesn't get as much acclaim as Pet Sounds is mostly because Side A isn't as good as Side B. Whereas Pet Sounds is as consistent as an album gets.
>>130313667Been listening to this album for years and my song ranking has changed a lot over the years... This is my current ranking:1. That's Not Me2. God Only Knows3. You Still Believe In Me4. Caroline, No5. Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder)6. Wouldn't It Be Nice7. I Just Wasn't Made for These Times8. I'm Waiting for the Day9. Here Today10. I Know There's An Answer11. Let's Go Away for Awhile12. Sloop John B13. Pet Sounds>That's Not Me at first place is a wild choice for sure. It's technically Brian's most minimalist composition in comparison to the others, but I absolutely adore the chord changes and the subject matter about how career and materialism means nothing without love>I think Sloop John B is a great song, but I've always maintained that it's out of place on the album, hence why it's so low
>>130313667why is this album revered
>>130314356Because you're gay
>>130314356>luscious harmonies and orchestral backings>catchy melodies with surprisingly progressive song structures >album that basically invented an artist writing and producing it all on their own>first emo albumidk
>>130314270I like That's Not Me because it's basically a preview of what Pet Sounds would have been like if Brian only used The Beach Boys
>>130314533Absolutely!
literally stole all their ideas from Fast Freddy & The Crooners
https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_n2O-mmQdi1ggKmZIAiN1KqSEm37rO1W-0&si=hI0xi2R5veq8pY5UJust released today, is there anything new on here or just a digital release of the Pet Sounds sessions?
>>130314516It's shitty surfer rock that people only pretend to like so they can be different from Beatlesfags.
>>130313718You lost Mike.
>>130314612literally nothing pops up when i search up this "group" >>130313667idk beachbros but i think i like smiley smile more
>>130314612Fat Freddy
>>130313667As I get older I like Pet Sounds less and less. The only tracks that have never lost their magic for me are That's Not Me, Don't Talk, Let's Get Away and I Just Wasn't Made for These Times. I find that I get way more Joy out of the post-Smile era. I get way more pleasure listening to Friends or Smiley Smile. Brian's favourites were Friends and Love You and honestly they speak to me far more than Pet Sounds does
>>130313667Surf's Up, Beach Boys Love You and Sunflower are better
>>130314705I can put on Love You and just sing the dumb songs anytime but I find I have to be in the right mood for Pet Sounds nowadays. Friends is nearly perfect because of how short and relaxing it is (except Transcendental Meditation)

>>130314705weird, i'm the complete opposite. i think brian went off the deep end after pet sounds and never recovered the talent he had.
>>130315416Mike Love wrote all those songs
>>130314270That's not me sounds like Stereolab and Broadcast.
>>130313667Corny circus music garbage. Toss it in the trash
>>130318779why are zoomers so obsessed with ingenuity and the word corny?
>>130319865Because they hate anything being sincere, everything has to be some nihilistic joke
>>130315632This was my opinion when I was a teenager but the older you get and the more you appreciate music you can see that Brian didn't lose his spark until Landy destroyed his mind with psych drugs. Take Love You for example. If you listen to the piano demos for those tracks the chord progressions on those songs are magical, it's just most people don't hear it with the synth heavy production. I'm not saying Brian was at his peak when he was making Friends or Sunflower but to me those albums have more life and staying power for me than Pet Sounds and Brian felt that way too. He always questioned the glazing Pet Sounds got
>>130313667>greatest album of all time>/mu/ doesn't get a sticky and " I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" I the background ever decade milestonesoulless>>130313686
>>130313667Drinking Wild Irish Rose and listening to this now.
>>130314656>literally nothing pops up when i search up this "group"because brian is a petty bitch and tried to sue freddy into oblivion
>>130319865Being sincere makes you an easy target for ridicule so these guys have to hide behind layers of irony and then they call out sincerity as being "cringe" and "corny".
>>130313667I just listen to a song called Be My Baby
>>130314705I dont bother speaking to people who dont rate You Still Believe In Me as the best track of Pet Sounds
>>130314270Well, I feel so broke upI wanna go home
>>130324978You have poor taste
>>130313667strongest God Only Knows fan vs weakest Wouldn’t it be Nice enjoyer
>>130324978I'm filtered by the bike bells and clown honking
>>130326103I think you're having the right reaction to it
>>130313667https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V2U75LHtg4
>>130327060https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxZiXBxJdPYThis is the definitive visualization of The Gift BTW
I ONCE HAD A DREAM, SO I PACKED UP AND SPLIT FOR THE CITY
>>130327060actually got an emotional response out of me
>>130313667Love You is better everyone get fucked>HONKING>HONKING DOWN THE GARSH DARN HIGHWAY
>>130314646it doesnt have all the surf-esque elements of the boy band that they were before this, its like one direction releasing a ground breaking 10/10 out of nowhere. thats why its amazing.
>>13032834710/10 is fair if you're rating it as a cure for the will to live I guess, I can't think of anything more depressing than putting on an album that makes me think of dementia and butterscotch candy. But I guess if music is only a vehicle for condescending to normies by being as contrarian as possible and not for genuine enjoyment you just choose the shittiest turd in the sandbox and proclaim that it's actually gold and wait for someone to contradict you.
>>130328514die nigger
>>130328347It wasn't out of nowhere. You can listen to the seeds from "The Warmth of the Sun" to "And Your Dream Comes True". It was the culmination of Brian's search for an album with lyrics about adolescent fantasies with grow up sounds
