im getting into hip hop what are some must listen albums
>>130313780Roland TR-909, E-MU SP-1200, Ensoniq ASR-10, and Akai’s MPC series
>>130313780>albums
>>130313780any Kanye album before 2019
>>130313780"hip hop" doesn't define much anymore, get specific.
not music
>>130313780Kanye West - Late RegistrationOsamaSon - Jump Out
critical beatdownwe cant be stoppedpaid in fulllife is... too $hortstep in the arena
>>13031378080s shit:paid in fulladventures of slick rickit takes a nation of millions3 feet high and risingpaul's boutique criminal mindedearly 90s:breaking atomsfunk your head upthe sun rises in the east (mostly just for come clean)low end theoryi wish my brother george was herestep into the arenaonce 36 chambers happened everything changed. Listen to all the solo wu members projects that came immediately after it. Illmatic of course, I recommend all the bootcamp clik shit from the mid 90s, OGC, black moon, smiff n wessun, heltah skeltah etc. Once you hit 94 there's really too much to name, just listen to all the classics. Idk if you have the patience to do it or not, but listening to these albums chronologically is a cool experience, you can really see the way hip hop evolved
>>130314145I feel like the beats used in songs that were popular for break dancing would be good OG rap sampling sources. It pre-dates rap a little, but it's beat-synth and pop, drum n bass tracks were traded a lot not as albums but for sure there were iconic pre-rap drum n bass collections.
>>130313780there's not a wide variety of opinions in music. people mostly just parrot what music websites say and their listings for the most part.>>130314145this is a decent list but i think the focus should be on songs not albums. albums were/are made to triple the cost of a single by giving you 30-80 minutes of filler.albums are a waste of your time. >>130314238those were and still are used as sample sources. they're called break beats.
>>130313780What have you been listening to? What have you liked or disliked?
>>130314358this graphic has so much on it that it's not that helpful for a beginner
>>130314381the first drum n bass were for car audio guys in land yachts with hydraulics in Los Sant... excuse me LA.
>>130313780Not music
>>130314640can you post an example?
>>130314381for sure, that's the case with a lot of albums. I did pick ones off the top of my head though where the album itself was memorable, but if OP wants to get through everything fast they can just look up the singles for each I guess.I skipped a ton of classics just because I can't effort post too hard here when I don't actually know what OP wants. Most people aren't interested in 80s/early 90s and wanna skip straight to Nas and shit
>>130314410i'm listing this playlist to get a feel of the popular stuff, i like all i've listen to so far
>>130315475there's a lot of canon music that was put out as a single but the album is nothing special, maybe the artist never did anything else noteworthy. Blazay Blazay - Danger is like that. you can play it at a hip hop club and everyone knows and loves it, but they're a total one-hit-wonder. there's a TON of good stuff like that.but the good albums are something special, too.I'd say I agree with most all of the albums posted here but you should really listen to some EPMD. it doesn't matter which album, really.
>>130315475timbaland from like late 90s to 2000s made a ton of great songs before that timberlake bullshit.you might be better finding the producers of the songs you like and looking for their singles production. rappers are mostly kind of interchangeable.
>>130316033>rappers are mostly kind of interchangeable>Guru and B. Real are interchangeable the fuck you talking bout?speaking of, OP, get a copy of the Cypress Hill album. self-titled
>>130315855>EPMDFacts, strictly business is a classic>>130313780I'll second Boot Camp Clik shithttps://youtu.be/U_dXcgKN-lQBetween them and all the early Wu-Tang stuff you should get a good grasp of the 90s golden era boom-bap shit

>>130321715probably the best chart so far, OP
>>130313780
>>130313780All the recs are going to be mostly from Timmy’s who grew up in majority white areas who listen to nerdfaggot shit so they can project how quirky they are. You should focus on finding which “region” you like the sound of best as west coast/east coast/southern/midwest are all distinct and even then they’re broken down within each region. I would focus on the region and then going into the time period. Each period of new sound or gimmick lasts typically for 4-6 years so you may not like the Atlanta sound from 2024 but you may like the Atlanta sound from 2016.
