No other band has as many great albums as them, no other band is as great as they are live, no other band is able to continually evolve and remain fresh like them, no other band receives critical acclaim as consistently as they do. The idea that boomer classic rock canon bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors and Fleetwood Mac are better is absurd.

I dropped off when they started with the beep-boop music a decade or so ago. Push the Sky Away was the last album I liked, and I only really liked half the songs on it.

the bad seeds produced an equal amount of stinkers and filler as they ever did gems is why. when you're great occasionally and meh the rest of the time that's textbook mediocrity

That just isn't true. Their only albums that are less than great are Nocturama and Kicking Against the Pricks, and even those are perfectly acceptable albums.

Dunno if this is blatantly obvious to non-Australians but Cave is a WANKER

How do I into the Birthday Party? I've tried many times and I just can't gel with TBP/BND as much as the Bad Seeds or Rowland S. Howard's solo albums and side projects.

This. Nick Cave is only as good as his sideman and Warren Ellis is the worst sideman he ever had.

Nick said that Dylan's Slow Train Coming was the only great Christian music he ever heard since it was gritty instead of I luv u Jeezus fluff.

This.
In the glory days when he had Mick and Blixa and Conway Savage it really was one of the greatest bands ever.

Henry's Dream [Mute, 1992]
Nick Cave's admirers crow about his many virtues--a rock musician who's scripted a movie and written a novel (!) They then proffer such dismal examples as "I am the captain of my pain" and a scene in which he describes a whalebone corset hanging in a bordello (whalebone is very literary, you see--it hasn't been used in underwear since well before Nick was born). If this is your idea of literary genius, you may be ripe for his cult. Otherwise forget it--the voice alone won't do the trick. C

Well musically they're almost frighteningly mid, hearing them for the first time the immediate reaction is invariably "What the fuck is all the fuss about?"

Add to this the inescapable reality that Nick Cave literally cannot hold a tune to save his life - I don't just mean "his voice is an acquired taste" but more "the guy struggles to pitch a single note correctly" and the reaction to their music quickly goes from bewilderment to outright hostility. It's like listening to a cover band full of failed local musicians play mournful unc tunes while some bitter drunken wetbrain vomits out amateurish karaoke vocals that make the audience audibly wince.

Once you become aware of these factors, it becomes very difficult to take their fans seriously. I try not to look down on them, but I must admit to looking at them sideways if you catch my drift. They'll be ranting on about what a genius Nick Cave is or whatever and you're just staring at them thinking "Yep, this burnout has definitely drunk the kool aid."

As compared to what? Even if you don't rate Cave's singing, objectively few, if any bands play this well or sound as good:

Again, as compared to what? What bands do you think are better?

>I Don't Get Why the Bad Seeds Aren't Widely Considered the Greatest Band of All Time
It's because they're not very good

just sounds like tom waits but nowhere near as good

maybe his lyrics are super amazing 2deep4u? they better be because the music is trash

Red Right Hand is the worst song on the album it's on. Play the two songs in my post above yours, they're also way better.
