Moonchild is kino and it fits the very cinematic and score feeling of the album, you gotta have that quiet atmospheric part of the album to contrast the action packed beginning and epic legendary ending

King Crimson was always the most badass and metal progressive rock ever got without being actual metal (which still doesn't sound as hardcore as KC's highs). From various albums>21st Century Schizoid Man (in 69 this was heavy af, sabbath wasn't as heavy)>Larks Tongues in Aspic Pt 2 (straight mean, listen to live version to really feel it)>Red (whole album is peak metal prog, while sabbath was losing their groove KC was playing darker and harder than ever before making all other prog bands look like fairies dancing in skirts, Henry Rollins himself used this as a model for his punk metal band)>Indiscipline (steadily becoming new wavier they still had moments of pure rawness, from the bass to the guitar solo this song is pure brutal manic fury)>Level 5 (this instrumental speaks for itself, always fun for Fripp to demonstrate he can play on a level almost no one can imitate (including Steve Vai who admitted it himself when he played with the band))

>>130351653i admire the VdGG autism and I know a few of their albums but it didn't take me listening to those tracks for a second to confirm those weren't nearly as heavy or mean for that matter, shit Jethro Tull Aqualung is way heavier than most of that. I'll grant Godbluff is solidly heavy an album I have and respect, another prog band that has some real heavy moments is Gentle Giant though its not the majority of their music Acquiring the Taste has good chunks of it.

VdGG has their little niche of being over-dramatic and boring 90% of the time and not having any melodies, in between the actual good bits where they go full on avant-garde heavy horror-movie organ freakout mode for a bit. But if you're being honest, even there Genesis beats them at their own game whenever they want to, like with Hogweed. They just simply chose to do more stuff than thatThey did the same thing to KC with Seven Stones. That whole song is like a casual, off-handed deconstruction of the entire ITCOTCK album where they break the entire thing down and rearrange it into 5 minutes of platonically perfect prog rock, and trump KC at their own game without really trying, but that just amounts to a casual filler track for Genesis on their own album. They were simply on a different level from all their contemporaries. That's why they were all able to so easily transition into pop success in the 80s (literally every band member btw), while all their contemporaries crashed and burned. They are just better
