I'd say Can I Play With Madness

kek
>>
This album gets worse with every relisten for me
>>
In The Court of the Crimson King [Island, 1969]
The plus is because Peter Townshend likes it. Beware the forthcoming hype--this is ersatz shit. D+
>>
>>130348458
Ersatz of what exactly? The moody blues? Kek xgau is such a tryhard
>>
Moonchild sucks and ruins an otherwise mid-tier King Crimson album.
>>
moonchild is the only good track
>>
Ban ritualposting.

Not music

Unironically this (starting at about 2:30)

>mid
go back to anime twitter you faggot
>>
Moonchild is pretty good but I hate almost all of their other long experimental classical/jazz songs
>>
>>130349701
more of a Revealing Science of God chad, eh?
>>
>>130350868
>their other long experimental classical/jazz songs
can you name some
>>
>>130343954
It's all about buildup. Without Moonchild, there would be no Moonman.
>>
I love Epitaph but the rest of the songs are hit or miss
i guess they never miss huh
>>
Moonchild is kino and it fits the very cinematic and score feeling of the album, you gotta have that quiet atmospheric part of the album to contrast the action packed beginning and epic legendary ending
>>
>>130350657
nothing wrong with using mid its the same as saying average or mediocre

>>130344000
you wouldn't have the balls to post what you think is better, prog rock has some of the absolute highs in music including bands that aren't prog rock but had progressive songs like Perfect From Now On or Ritual De Lo Habitual's long songs
>>
King Crimson was always the most badass and metal progressive rock ever got without being actual metal (which still doesn't sound as hardcore as KC's highs). From various albums
>21st Century Schizoid Man (in 69 this was heavy af, sabbath wasn't as heavy)
>Larks Tongues in Aspic Pt 2 (straight mean, listen to live version to really feel it)
>Red (whole album is peak metal prog, while sabbath was losing their groove KC was playing darker and harder than ever before making all other prog bands look like fairies dancing in skirts, Henry Rollins himself used this as a model for his punk metal band)
>Indiscipline (steadily becoming new wavier they still had moments of pure rawness, from the bass to the guitar solo this song is pure brutal manic fury)
>Level 5 (this instrumental speaks for itself, always fun for Fripp to demonstrate he can play on a level almost no one can imitate (including Steve Vai who admitted it himself when he played with the band))
>>
>>130343954
The entire album should have sounded like the improv section of Moonchild.
>>
the ending of Moonchild is bizzarely some of the most beautiful music you'll ever hear, islands is another example where they get surprisingly beautiful

>King Crimson was always the most badass and metal progressive rock ever got without being actual metal
You misspelled Van der Graaf Generator.
>21st Century Schizoid Man (in 69 this was heavy af, sabbath wasn't as heavy)
This came out in 1969 too and it is just straight Power Metal with organs

>Larks Tongues in Aspic Pt 2 (straight mean, listen to live version to really feel it)
>Indiscipline (steadily becoming new wavier they still had moments of pure rawness, from the bass to the guitar solo this song is pure brutal manic fury)
How about growling vocals with blast beats in... 1975?

>Red (whole album is peak metal prog, while sabbath was losing their groove KC was playing darker and harder than ever before making all other prog bands look like fairies dancing in skirts, Henry Rollins himself used this as a model for his punk metal band)
This is a flimsy point, but to the extent that it is true, Godbluff is a similar stylistic shift to Red, and it sounds unequivocally heavier.
>Level 5 (this instrumental speaks for itself, always fun for Fripp to demonstrate he can play on a level almost no one can imitate (including Steve Vai who admitted it himself when he played with the band))
This one point is valid.

i admire the VdGG autism and I know a few of their albums but it didn't take me listening to those tracks for a second to confirm those weren't nearly as heavy or mean for that matter, shit Jethro Tull Aqualung is way heavier than most of that. I'll grant Godbluff is solidly heavy an album I have and respect, another prog band that has some real heavy moments is Gentle Giant though its not the majority of their music Acquiring the Taste has good chunks of it.
>>
This music sucks and repels the pussy.

All wrong

There's nothing stopping you from just deleting songs you don't like. Even moonchild I can understand trimming it to the two minute actual song part.
Boom, now it comes in at a crisp 30 minutes.

The most heavy metal prog band is just Genesis. It's all just Genesis, don't overthink it too much, Genesis did everything the best. Musical Box is literal proto-Maiden, galloping and all.
VdGG has their little niche of being over-dramatic and boring 90% of the time and not having any melodies, in between the actual good bits where they go full on avant-garde heavy horror-movie organ freakout mode for a bit. But if you're being honest, even there Genesis beats them at their own game whenever they want to, like with Hogweed. They just simply chose to do more stuff than that
They did the same thing to KC with Seven Stones. That whole song is like a casual, off-handed deconstruction of the entire ITCOTCK album where they break the entire thing down and rearrange it into 5 minutes of platonically perfect prog rock, and trump KC at their own game without really trying, but that just amounts to a casual filler track for Genesis on their own album.
They were simply on a different level from all their contemporaries. That's why they were all able to so easily transition into pop success in the 80s (literally every band member btw), while all their contemporaries crashed and burned. They are just better

>Providence
This is an excerpt from a longer improv.
>The Devil's Triangle
An inferior arrangement of Holst's Mars because they couldn't get the rights from his estate. True story.
>The Talking Drum
Filtered. Nothing more to say.
>>
>>130343954
Based KC still filtering the plebs with basic free improvisation
>>
>>130351408
Except it sounds petulant and trashy.
>>
>>130343954
The whole album and most of prog itself sucks balls
>>
>>130351976
You’d be surprised how many cute chicks are into /mu/core, including this. Unfortunately they’re all damaged goods and not for long term
