Don't fall for the tube amp scam. Solid state amps are cheaper and sound better. Stay analog, avoid modelling shit, and you'll be fine. Don't let the tube snobs scam you, to get modern punk / metal tones with tubes you have to spend thousands of dollars.
>>
>still using amps instead of a DAW

Have you used a tube amp?

>>130347934
No.
>>
>>130347416
I have a Marshall MG15 and 10 or so pirated amp sims. Bye.
>>
>>130347416
Amp sim > tube >>> SS

And I say this as someone who has only ever owned tube amps. I love how dynamic, responsive and articulate they are, but amp sims are scarily close and the convenience makes up for the minute differences in sound.

The again I don’t play metal, so if you’re a broke teenager then SS is probably perfect for you.

>>130348336
yes, i have used a tube amp. tube amps don't do heavy distortion without a pedal (i refuse to use pedals) unless you pay like $2k for a peavey or some shit
>>
>>130348300
>>130348336
my experience with sims is that there is a noticeable amount of latency between what you actually play and when it comes out of the speaker, because you're using a computer for something that a computer shouldn't be doing

ive had many small tube amps over the years like harmony and traynor and other fun ones like that but i took a chance on a ss amp with a jfet preamp a few years back and was blown away by the similar warm crunch and touch responsiveness
>>
>>130349879
actually OP i believe these orange amps use jfets as well so no wonder you like them. cheers brother
>>
I'll stick with my tube amps. Thanks for your opinion.
>>
For me, it's the Ampeg VH-140C
>>
>>130347416
I honestly believe it’s a matter of what you’re after.
A lot of metal guys prefer solid state amps because the low end is tighter and doesn’t sag like a tube amp. Crate is a good example of this.
Tube amps are warmer but that’s not necessarily better.
They are nostalgic for people who were brought up with them.
Solid state has also improved over the last few years.
I generally prefer tube amps but the jazz chorus is a great example of how solid state has always been legitimate technology.
It’s always more important what you do with it than anything else else.
>>
>>130349678
hes probably too fucking lazy to learn them and thinks hes cool getting his sound from his amp alone because a few famous guitarists did that
>>
All you really need is a Peavey Bandit.
>>
Broke ass metal faggot cant afford anything and will cry about it. Even the close mindedness about pedals has been a metal fag cope since the 90s
>>
>>130348336
>Amp sim > [anything]
How? Feedback can't be natural because it doesn't have that physical feedback of soundwaves hitting your pickups.
>>
>>130347416
15 watt tube amps are like 200 bucks on Facebook dumbass that orange cube is what 500 dollars? Fuck you OP you are a retard.
>>
>>130347416
don't fall for the electric jew. use an acoustic. let the venue worry about amplification. not my problem.
>>
>>130348336
This.
Ppl need to wipe their 20 year old ampsim experience where the sound and the lag was still shit and embrace the luxury of having tube amp sound while practicing on headphones.

What a retarded fucking thread, I swear 99% of guitarists are the most retarded musicians or "artists" to ever exist.
>>
>>130353842
Nothing dries a pussy up faster than some electroniggers synth stack
>Inb4 you make beats
You do not make music
>>
>>130354034
You want some lore? I have a hybrid tube amp with a couple of pedals, they give me the tone I like and that's fucking it.
I don't call myself a guitarist or anything, I just play the music. I don't have a strong opinion on gear as I think it's just - as this thread illustrates - massively retarded.
Kill yourself dude.
>>
>>130354450
>You want some lore?
no
>I don't call myself a guitarist or anything
All you needed to say. Your opinion doesn't mean shit, retard.
>>
>>130348336
I had a problem recording amp sims. There was always some harsh high-end shit going on that was very hard to EQ away.
But, I just got Fractal Audio Icon Fullerton VST and I think I'll sell my Princeton.
>>
>>130354504
>Hurrrrr I'm a guitawist and you offend me! This is higly anti-guitawistic!
Ultrakill yourself right now you worthless piece of shit.
>>
>>130355705
Nice sperg out. Let me spell it out for you stupid nigger.
>>130354450
>I have a hybrid tube amp with a couple of pedals, they give me the tone I like and that's fucking it.

>My gear works great for me! Anyone who wants better gear is a moron!
>My iPhone takes pictures great for me! Anyone who wants a dslr camera is a moron!
>My gtx 970 games great for me! Anyone who wants a better GPU is a moron!
>My lcd works great for me! Anyone who wants an OLED is a moron!
Just because something works for (you) doesn't mean that somebody else won't see the value in a different option. I'm glad you can strum power chords with your amp bro.
>>
>>130351710
>15 watt tube amps are like 200 bucks
any amp with valves that is 200 bucks will be fragile as hell or shit ass quality/broken/paperweight
>>
>>130358252
You have absolutely no experience, knowledge, or skills with anything. I bet your music id fucking horrible
>>
>>130351375
this except vtm 60, butcher, or 5150.
>>
>>130351364
But they told me pedals are for people too lazy to learn to actually play guitar??? Which is it??
>>
I got a 5150 iii for like $700 ages ago. It rules for heavy tones, although the "clean" channel is kind of sad.
>>
>>130347416
>Stay analog
anon solid states aren't analog...
>>
>>130358382
ad hominems
>>130359108
youre just trolling now
>>
>>130359292
ICs are not analog. you need to revisit what analog actually means in an electronics context
>>
>>130349676
Your experience is being a retarded boomer, because I have 1-2ms of latency on my amp sims which is fucking nothing.

This is Jeff Becks pedal board
That’s the answer to your question
>>
>>130359706
A peavey bandit or a jazz chorus do not have analog to digital converters. They are completely analog amps. At no point does the circuit involve a processor/controller.
>>
>>130359706
that is semantics
>>
>>130358252
My peabey classic 15 was 200 bucks used
....I like it a lot. I think it's a good amp.
If you're on your local marketplace you can get some great deals. Never buy gear new online or, God forbid, from a music store.
>>
>>130362144
>peabey classic 15
yeah... buts its a peavey...
>>
>>130362395
I understand peabey is memed on but I've owned several amps by them and theyve been great. My classic 20 is dope brah I'm never gonna sell it.
>>
>>130347416
>to get modern punk / metal tones with tubes you have to spend thousands of dollars
no retard, you just have to put a distortion pedal before the amp
>>
>>130349666
>i refuse to use pedals
i used to be like you, satan. i had a JCM 800 cranked to the max for distortion. great to destroy your ears live, but it didn't even translate well to recordings.
>>
>>130363948
>i had a JCM 800 cranked to the max for distortion.
i fucking kneel...
>>
>>130349666
>tube amps don't do heavy distortion without a pedal
My 5150 does tho
>>
>>130347416
Yeah all of that and amplification is potentially as a node or circuit signal processor in a signal processing circuit which is what signal processing which is just to highlight the obvious connection between amplification and distortion and not that i understand neither of them about that topic and purpose and symbol and instrument
>>
>>130348018
Yeah, I've used a Soldano and a JCM800/900 at a studio setting, sound amazing but way overhyped
