If a vocal section of a song can be copy and pasted onto a whole other beat without much alteration then it probably isn't a very unique vocal melody. One of the reasons I like Shabang is the fact that Drake's flow matches the syncopation of the first beat and allows the beat to breathe with plenty of rest but the second beat ruins it by having no drums whatsoever so it loses the groove of the first beat. I didn't think about this until now but I think one of the dangers of a beat switch is the natural tendency for comparison. One beat is always going to be preferred over the other in people's opinion, which also leaves the room for improvement along with it creating a sense of wasted potential, like the song could be better if he just stuck with the better beat.Some of the switches are cool like National Treasure but it still destroys the vibe like how can I fit that song into a playlist? For me, when it comes to music, it's all about the feeling it invokes and this album is unfocused. I think Drake just gets hundreds of awesome beats and just wants to use them all but doesn't have the time to dedicate his full attention to just one instrumental.
