it took me 10 years to understand this album. i put it on before bed in 2024 and fell asleep. i did it again the next day. its pretty relaxing. its also very fun for assembling ikea furniture

For me I honestly had somewhat of the opposite experience, where I first heard this record when I was in my late teens and it was new. I really dug it, and I do consider it a formative album for me, though it wasn’t one of my absolute most listened to/cherished. I have a great memory of driving across the country on a road trip with my gf and friends, listening to this on my headphones while looking out the window going through South Dakota. The swelling intensity, hypnotic nature, and overall sound of the record (I don’t really need to describe it further, you know the album).

Nowadays it does less for me, and I’m not sure sure why. Maybe it’s just familiarity, where it sounds closer to post-rock by the numbers simply because I’ve heard it many times plus a lot more post-rock. Although I don’t think it’s really worth overly-philosophizing about it. The fact of the matter is that tastes can change, and there’s a chance I’ll end up truly loving it someday. What is true though is that when I see the cover for the album I have positive memories and can really feel the musical moments on it resurfacing.

You're a mentally challenged individual. This album is immediately able to be understood as a collection of mediocre songs to anyone with any semblance of taste or intellect.

I got memed into listening to soundtracks for the blind. This band makes music for rapists. That's the vibe I get listening to this shit. Idk how you could tell any girl "yeah I'm a huge swans fan" and have her not get the ick but I guess lots of bitches are into that kinda so maybe it's based.
