Looking to get into some good quality record playing so I can enjoy my music at the highest possible quality as God intended.

Is Fluance record players overall considered the best for this?
Should I be going manual, automatic or semi automatic?

Maybe I'm deaf but I have an old piece of shit Sanyo TP420 and a recent Sony PS-LX310BT and a Pro Ject something (don't remember the model, it was around $800) and they all sound the same to me. I find that the speakers and the quality of the record itself make more difference. Or maybe I suck at buying turntables.

record players are easy
if your budget is several hundred pounds/euros /dollars or below, buy the best Rega you can afford
don't skimp on the cartridge

i have a fluance rt82 which works just fine

I was going to come here and wank over my Xerxes but this is the best advice that OP's going to get.

Absolutely true. Speakers make a huge difference. I was planning on getting the Fluance package deal with their speakers. I do know the Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge it comes with is one of the best for good sound quality.

The cartridge makes a difference as well in this case

Was not aware of rega. Looks pretty good so might end up going with this. Thanks

I've been using the cart in OP's pic for about a year and it's just alright. My Ortofon 2m blue was worn out and I figured I'd try a Nagaoka before I bought a new needle for the blue. I find that it tracks worse through vintage VG condition kind of records and makes them sound notably worse than the blue

Pretty much. The main area the player itself matters would be things like speed accuracy or vibrations, but just about any decent player won't have those issues. Also the cartridge, a good one matters there too.

Depends how lazy you are

I recommend at least semi-auto so you won't rape the needle if you fall asleep or leave the house without picking it up

Technics 1200 if you can find it used for a decent price

There are coutnless turntable brands with prices ranging from $50 to over $10K, from what I've heard Fluance is a decent choice but it's not the best ever

Personally I dislike how Fluance tables have exposed belts
>>

Yes this is why I was considering Fluance for the autostop feature which unfortunately Rega players don't have. Other solution would be to just get a Rega with a Q-UP solution but I've heard those or iffy and don't always work

What's wrong with exposed belts?
>>
I think old players are better than what they make now

In terms of sound quality? Not a chance

realising technology doesn't improve but is just simplified and made cheaper and often worse is a important step in growing up and becoming adult only literal children think everything default improves like consumer electronics are "gear" from a video game that improves each year that's not true at all sound quality is not "improving" every year that's not how audio works.

Show me a record player from 40 years ago with the same sound quality as one of the newer top models

both wrong. technology does improve, obviously. I'm not typing this on a hand axe, but a device that would have been literal witchcraft a generation ago. and in audio specifically, DACs, amplifiers and speakers have made considerable improvements over the last few decades, particularly at the affordable end of the market.
on the other hand, record players hardly use any fancy technology. most of the machine is just a device to make something turn on a bearing at constant speed, which is pretty easy if you put enough budget into some precision machining and thats stuff we had down a long time ago. the only electronics in the circuit path are in the cartridge, and they work in exactly the same way as they always used to, coils of wire and magnets.

Cartridges have improved as well though. Simply boiling it down to coils and wires is disingenuous

How? Seems like styluses are cut the same way they were decades ago. The most popular models of Audio Technica carts were introduced in the 70s and 80s. Who is putting big research and development money into vinyl to make these technological advances?
