>>130721493>You should het a looper and play actual basslines not just drone Es. Just dial the loop volume down after thatIt's not a good solution for me imo. I said before that my drummer cannot play quietly (or even anything below max volume) so likewise he will not be able to follow a loop. He's a pretty new player, the concept of following something else for time instead of him creating it will be too complicated. I replaced all the tubes because idk what else to try and it didn't resolve it. It never was incredibly loud at 2 but 5 used to be plenty. Even when it did work good enough the highs were still an issue while the lows were ringing. Not sure if I should try to fix it up or just get a new amp

>>130724255>using less components ultimately costs lessWe were talking about the supposed damping of string vibrations due to magnetic effects. I will concede that eddy currents in the string will, in fact, cause out-of-phase magnetic fields that counteract that of the polepieces and cause some amount of damping; however, the strings aren't that great at conducting current and the magnetic field strength is extremely limited there, which means that the effect is inaudibly minuscule at any reasonable pickup height.Regarding the meta discussion about the credibility of sources: Maybe don't blindly trust the AI, unqualified personnell (i.e. journalists, even those proclaiming to be experts), and people who have a conflict of interest when publishing research that may go against their financial interests. Unless you're being paid to shill products (which I can kind of understand, even if I find the concept abhorrent), the only reason that I can imagine for your dismissal of ideas that could save you money and effort in tone-chasing is that you're subconsciously afraid of being wrong. There is nothing wrong with admitting fault, or accepting that beliefs you hold may be incorrect. To err is human, just don't be willfully ignorant.

Clarification >>130724342By "inaudible" I don't mean "I have a hearing skill issue", I mean that the effect is an order of magnitude smaller than the variation in dynamics that even a professional player will have, even with short takes snippets, even when he's trying to match the performance exactly. Not to mention an amateur player "A/B'ing" completely different gear with large intervals between takes, "feeling out the vibes" and attributing any difference to a single arbitrary factor.

P90s sound great at any volume, more importantly they need to be dialed for what you’re trying to achieve
>>130724559I think heavy riffs and metal sounds cool on a Strat anyway. I'm not really arguing.
Imagine him sucking your cock while he plays
Whether or not your pickups sound good is primarily what amp you're playing into and what role you're playing in the overall composition. P90s into mid-heavy Marshall amps were just an extreme measure to get an extreme punchy sound.

In any case, I just found out Schaller makes nuts with different radii so that's probably what I'll go for. It's gonna be a 41.4 mm but I'd rather that than 42.9. >>130725126not a drop in replacement at all just buy a different guitar, it's not worth it at all
>>130725126you sure you can even put a locking nut on a guitar that has a conventional nut slot? sounds to me like you just don't have the right guitar. you may not wanna hear it, but when you get into modding crap like this it gets very complicated very quick, and eventually you have a janky unstable guitar that isn't working as designed. i've modded a handful of guitars over the years, and the best lesson I learned is to never buy something you think you might wanna change. If it isn't perfect for what you want it for, then it isn't for you. changing stuff around gets expensive really quick too, and first time around you are pretty much guaranteed to break/damage something. pic related is a guitar i modded just so you know I'm not bsing you entirely. I added a d-tuna, milled out a cavity for it, and rewired the entire thing with fender noiseless hots and a shawbucker iirc. I had to also mill down the single coil cavities bc they were too short for the added electronics of the noiseless pups
>>130725222I know it's not a drop in replacement. I need to replace the trem on it anyway so might as well go the extra mile. >>130725250Yeah I've seen a few videos on it so I know it's doable. I wouldn't do it myself though, I'd give it to a pro. To be honest I still need to carve out an arm contour on it to see if I'd wanna take it further but that's what I'm hoping for. The neck on it is superb so I really want to play it more, plus I really do want a floyd guitar. Putting one on this one is way cheaper than getting a new one, especially since most come with a shitty special even in the 1k price range. And I do need a new trem for this one because mine is shit so I might as well take it a step further and put a nice floyd in it.
>>130725306i basically read this is>cool story dude, im still gonna fuck my guitar for almost as much money as it would cost just to get a new onegood luck dude
>>130725250>you sure you can even put a locking nut on a guitar that has a conventional nut slot?Yeah, of course, you can either have neck cut by professional luthier and get a locking nut installed, or (a much cheaper option) install a new neck.Similarly, it would be a much better idea to just get a different body for it, already routed for floyd rose. So, the best option of all, is to just buy a different guitar for floyd rose. Especially considering that once set up, that guitar will be married to a single tuning, it's the only good way to floyd rose.

>>130729410You could play it as shown on the sheet. G major is G-B-D so you can either leave the B string open or press 3rd fret to turn it into a D as both are part of the chord. However it is much more common to do middle finger A string and ring finger low E with the B string open, since that makes it easy to shift fingers for A minor chord, E major etc.

I love fucking my pedals
>>130727486I’m not sure of the specs on that, but maybe consider a Vintera III as well, those have CTS electronics, cloth wiring, a mute, and I have to say, my V III Jag is the most well set up Fender I’ve ever pulled out of a box. It blows away the AVII Jazzmasters I tried when it comes to build and QC and it’s not even close. That AVRI Jag is a bit older I think so you’re probably good in that regard, but something to consider if it’s the same ballpark price wise. The V IIIs also come with shielded cavities. It’s one of the best sounding Jags I’ve played up there with actual vintage models, they really nailed it.

How hard is it to change pickups and solder them in for someone who’s never soldered anything before? I’ve got an old Strat and the bridge pickup is dying and losing output and I need to replace it.
>>130731889pickups don't die. they are wire wrapped around a magnet. it's likely something else in your electronics that has a poor connection
>>130731936Can't they lose fidelity and need to be remagnetized if they experience a physical shock?
>>130731984did you strike the magnet directly with a hammer several times?
>>130730598I back fender for two reasons: primarily for the seethe it’s causing finook, but also because that is their shape, and so is the Tele, only a cocksucking commie would disagree, one whom sucks the cocks by choice. >>130732959Depending on what you are playing. Are you new?
>>130732986>Are you newSomewhat. I started playing a year and a half ago but I've barely practiced fingerstyle. Different fingers picking different strings at different times is just difficult.
>>130732959i never said it was easier than using a pick, but fingerstyle clicked fast for me as a beginner
>>130733005a good place to start with fingerstyle is comping a bossa nova song with shell voicings. you only use three fingers and you're either playing thumb, middle+ring, or all three
>>130733014fingerstyle is its own style. it's easy to play fingerstyle arrangements with fingerstyle. it's hard to play non-fingerstyle arrangements with fingerstyle

Tremolo before or after reverb?
There are no rules to music
>>130733154This is true but the best way to learn what works is to learn theory and learn off that
>>130733114Do you want the tails to be modulated? Yes -> after, no, smooth tails -> before.
Bros my birthday is in two weeks help me pick out a new pedal
>>130733114Whatever you think sounds good. Fender amps always had tremolo after reverb and I love the sound of spring reverb and spring tremolo in Fender amps so I’ve always put tremolo after reverb on my boards.
>>130733197music theory is like physics. human beings think in terms of rules so applying rules to things helps us understand organic systems
>>130733221No more pedals, Will

>>130734124That specific guitar is either a 1962 or 1965 reissue and therefor it uses vintage correct staggered pole pieces with its vintage correct 7.25” radius. Back then the G pole was was high as it was because wound Gs were common.
>>130734124Some amount of EQing, I guess Leo didn't like the b string much. I was wondering about that on the Strat I bought (used) recently
>>130726976
>>130734571It was in the us.And now it will be in the EU
>>130734754It's because fender guitars were played/tested/r&d'd on fender amps which are ice pick in eardrum levels of bright. the staggered pole pieces cut down on that
>>130734824Telecaster polepieces are flatQ&A didn't have standardized amps at the time but they would have been Tweeds in the 50s which are a lot more midrangey and less piercing than the Blackfaces of the 60s
>>130734824>>130734894
>>130734342What law school did you go to retard?
>>130734894Tele pickups are from lap steel guitars whose necks were flat.
>>130734906Ok? Your (?) post was about amps and not neck construction.
>>130734913The radius of the pole pieces comes from the radius of the neck on a strat. tard.Teles were thrown together with parts from other instruments. That's why the pole pieces are flat.
>>130734902I work at the law office of Lettuce Turnip and Pea.So stick it.
>>130734936The pole pieces on Strat pickups don't follow the neck radius though. They're all over the place. Neck geometry is out as the (only) reason. This post >>130734824 mentioned the amps they used during development and quality control, but he's wrong since his argument assumes that amps with characteristics similar to the Blackface would have been used, when Tweeds were what they actually used. That's not the (sole) reason either.
>>130734962You're talking about vintage staggered which is not the norm in strats
>>130734962>They're all over the placethe staggered poles in that first strat photo arent all over the place, theyre in the same place as every other staggered pole pickup that vintage strats used until fender changed to a flatter 9.5 radius with a different stagger to match. the e and a are low, the d is higher, the g is even higher due to the wound g, the b is low and the e is low. vintage 7.25 stagger pickups all have the b lower than the e, it isnt just some random arrangement of heights that changes pickup to pickup or guitar to guitar.
>>130734992Here's the real reason for staggering: The people developing them figured there's a tonal difference, it cost nothing to implement (you literally just push the polepieces up or down a tiny bit) and they could sell it as an upgrade over the more boring-looking flat ones. There IS a sonic difference but I doubt they went through the trouble of meticulously minmaxing the heights, recording DI signals under lab conditions, carefully measuring the exact output signal amplitude given an exact plucking amplitude and speed at a specific location along the string while also changing strings between takes and ensuring that their respective parameters were exactly equal. I know I sure as shit won't bother doing that.If your g string is way too loud -- just push the bobbin down a bit. There, you're done.
>>130733524Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage..
>>130735032>it isnt just some random arrangement I agree. However, I doubt they went through a meticulous testing process for even the first design, nevermind each later iteration. They thought about the theory behind it for a few minutes, set them up however they thought they should be set, maybe went through 2 rounds of vibe-testing and then just recorded the current setting to be re-used on all production models.
>>130734962Nta but it's the still the same type of amp regardless of if it's blackface blonde tweed silverface etc
