I'm planning on buying a bass and tuning it like a cello, not an octave down just the same exact tuning (C2-G2-D3-A3)
I think I would use a capo on the fifth fret so I'd only have to tune the fourth string a minor third up and the first string a minor third down (and to make it easier to play) but this would become a problem for the third string, which I would have to tune a fifth down, and for the second, which I would have to tune a fourth down
do you think I should buy a thicker gauge for the third and second strings?

Pickups and parts came two days early. Pickups are in, one switch is replaced, re did all the grounding just in case, now it’s sounding great and I have a bridge pickup that actually works. I still need to set it up with 11s and get rid of that dumb buzz kill bar thing, and I’ve got a spare Mustang bridge I’m going to use on this so once I set it up later today/maybe later this week I’ll be finished with it. My total cost in it is $1675, I’m pretty happy with that for a 22 year old AVRI Jag with pickups that are widely regarded as superior to the pickups these originally came with

Im not sure if it's better to keep the DD8 on here because it's easy to use or if i should switch it out with the EHX Grand Canyon so that I have a 16 minute looper on deck. The canyon just takes longer to dial in sometimes and gets outta wack sometimes with it's myriad settings.

>mfw we get to watch you slowly add all your hoarder garbage back onto to your board in real time

get rid of all that junk and get a tube amp ffs. pedal boards are for wedding bands and street performers that need to have a variety of effects to play from a huge catalogue of songs. for normal players they are just a distraction and get in the way of learning your craft, which is playing good notes at the right time and being interesting enough of a player in your own rite that ppl wanna listen to you. getting a proper tube amp is step one
>>
>>130801146
I actually want some kind of solid state amp i can play through the effects loop with my drum machine and guitar like i do now with my orange amp. I think I got my board where it needs to be now. These things keep me interested in playing, but also Im relying on effects less than ever before. This board is only 10 pedals and i was using twice that at least before this.

>>130801771
As far as recs, the tech has been changing so fast. A few years ago my g20 was cutting edge but I'm not sure what is out there with a similar feature-set but if I had to go shopping for a tube amp again I'd want several things:

1. Attenuator of some kind
2. A direct out for interface
3. FX loop
4. high gain channel
5. cabsim, so you can use headphones w/out cabinet

My revv g20 has all those things, but I'm sure other options have sprang up since then

Rhythm got quantized and boring and with it guitar riffs
>>
>>130801949
Can't you just create a guitar riff you like and have the rhythm quantized over it?

File: LOLLS.jpg (1.68 MB, 2500x1667)

Well, that was a huge pain in the ass. Soldering went well but the Lollars were slightly larger than the PV65's so I had to dremel out my pickguard a little bit so they'd fit. Not perfect and oversized it on one end a little, but it doesn't completely look like shit.

They do sound amazing though ngl. Was worth it.
>>
>>130802000
there is always that one thing that you fuck up when you mod a guitar and its why i stopped bothering with it. good to know how to do those things, but once you learn, you realize you'd rather just buy the guitar you like from the getgo. if i think i would wanna mod something in the future, that is my cue that it isn't the guitar for me

>>
>>130802147
>>130802168
There have been plenty of good songs built off a riff.
And as for rhythm, just play with a metronome - why quantize it? Though, if you're programming a drum track I'm not sure if you can make it 'imperfect' at all without it just sounding sloppy.
>>
>>130802193
You want to play along with drums not to a click.
>>
>>130802207
you want to play along with an actual drummer or records with a full ensemble. what your click sounds like makes no difference
>>
>>130802193
>if you're programming a drum track I'm not sure if you can make it 'imperfect' at all without it just sounding sloppy
this is easy and done every day.
just slide the kick and snare hits a few samples either way.
>>
>>130802181
i hear you, most western music has syncopation to a degree... just felt like i'd try to make everything land on 1 and 3 to give the snare some space to pop rhythmically. its a simple easy thing to do so i recorded and comped it that way. not sure i like it 100%, depends if i can come up with a cool vocal for it, but from a mixing perspective i like the mix
>>
When you're arpeggiating do you just try different stuff until you get something cool or are you thinking about scale degrees and shit
>>
>>130802232
I hum a melody and play it in real time because I can do that
>>
>>130802207
>You want to play along with drums not to a click.
Why? Because the drummer will be slightly off time? If that's 'feel' or 'groove' from the drum beat then there's no reason you can't create a riff without any kind of backing track or line - just go off feel and build from there.
>>130802225
Is the only reason to do this to make it sound imperfect/organic?
>>
What the fuck is quantizing and why does it matter
>>
>>130802244
Using software to artificially force everything to be perfectly in time
>>
>>130802232
I let God put his hand up my arse and inspire a melody
>>
>>130802253
So, would bands in the 70s or whatever before quantization have more dynamic music since the drummer isn't perfectly in time? You're telling me drummers then wouldn't record their track in the studio with a metronome?
>>
If a jaguar feels way better than a strat or a tele or a jazzmaster does that mean im a tiny handed bitch? Should i be embarrassed?
>>
>>130802253
No wonder cats these days can't swing.
>>
>>130802258
yes there’s a 2-3 bpm drift between sections
>>
>>130802261
Wdym by sections, like different parts of the song or different instruments playing over the drums?
>>
>>130802264
like going from the verse to the chorus or especially the bridge will have different energy. some people tend to spend up during intense sections
>>
>>130802258
>drummers
>ever listening to anything
>>
>>130802270
Sounds like it's just impossible to get that energy without having people playing along with you then unless you specifically code it so the tempo speeds up for / right before those sections
>>
So is the drum track the only part in a mix that actually gets quantized?
>>

All set up with 11s and playing great, had to tweak the truss rod a smidge and slightly open up the nut slots for 11s but other than that business as usual for a set up he’ll yeah goof off time
https://voca.ro/17pX5WGcO6dc
>>
>>130802283
>>130802270
Couldn't you technically just MIDI the drums instead of program them and play over that lol
MIDI drum to a metronome, you'll be off slightly but it's more natural than programming it.
This brings another question, how will energy shift if they're all recording separate tracks? Say the drummer is recording first, he isn't listening to anything since he's the first track to go in, how does he shift in energy exactly when there's nothing else going on?

That's the worst possible way you could record. Ideally the main rhythm section lays down the track simultaneously in a single take.

white one is an IGC custom, black is just a normal custom. White one is my favorite guitar of the bunch by a wide margin and plays phenomenally well.

the archtop is actually one I got for free and have been restoring that was about to go to a landfil because of the damage to it. it's a 1931 epiphone masterbilt deluxe and currently plays like shit but sounds really nice
>>
I need songs that are fun to play, that have the guitar doing a melody/hook/solo the whole song. I mainly practice riffs because they're fun and challenging but I want some full songs under my belt. It's hard to learn most songs as solo practice because for 60% of them I'm cucked to the background doing something stupid
>>

IGC is out of my price range, but I might get a regular custom.
Can you post a voco of the archtop?
